Chapter 2:
Joe held onto Lena for what felt like an eternity to her, then finally kissed her on the forehead and led her down the side of the road. She grabbed his hand, feeling a lot better, now knowing where their relationship stood in Joe's life. Halfway down the first street leading to Lena's house, it started to rain. Pooring rain.
"No!" Joe yelled, angry that this day would never end. He pulled the hood of his sweatshirt over a mess of dark brown hair and grabbed Lena's arm.
"Joe, slow down!" she yelled, struggling to catch up with him. Immediately after she said that Joe stopped, turned around and took off his sweatshirt.
"Here." He offered his warm hoodie to her and she slipped it on quickly, inhaling its sweet smell of cologne and fresh April rain.
Joe started to run again, but Lena grabbed his hand first before he had the chance to. "Can we just walk home? I kind of...like the rain," she said, smiling sweetly.
"Of course." He smiled and squeezed her hand, pulling her closer.
After nearly an hour of taking their sweet time to walk back to Lena's, they finally arrived at a large stone house.
"Come on," Lena said, pulling him up towards the door, "My parents said we could order pizza."
"Alright, fine." Joe all of the sudden seemed grumpy when they got to her house. Was it her parents? No, he was always so nice. Her dog? No, he adored Charlie. Or was it Lena? This she was about to find out.
After a half hour of near agony for Joe, the delivery man finally arrived. He payed him, grabbed the pizza, then proceeded with slamming the door after Lena had warned him not to.
"Joseph!" she yelled angrily.
"What? I'm hungry." He shoved a huge bite of pepperoni pizza and his mouth and chewed like an animal to annoy her. She gave him her warning look, but he ignored it like he was completely oblivious she was there still.
He had set the pizza down on the edge of the couch and it would've crashed on the white carpet if it wasn't for Lena. She reached down to grab a slice just as it fell.
"Way to go, Lenie," Joe said laughing.
"Me? It was you who put it right there!" Her face turned red with fury at how immature he was being, and she warned him one last time. This time with something more drastic. "Don't call me that anymore Joe."
"Call you what?" he asked confused.
"Lenie; just don't call me that, okay?" "Fine."
Joe and Lena ate their pizza in silence, with the occasional sound of Lena biting down angrily on the crust.
"Hey, Lena?" Joe asked, seeming a little bit toned down.
"Hmm?" she mumbled, turning to face his chocolatey eyes.
"Do I seem...different?"
"What do you mean?" she asked, putting down her pizza.
"Like...does it seem like I act different to you, since we first met?" He sounded nearly desperate.
"Well...honestly?"
"Honest."
"Okay...yeah, Joe. You do seem different. But why do you ask? Is there a reason you would be acting different?" She raised her eyebrows at him, waiting for an answer.
"I - Umm.."
