Chapter 1
Caitlin’s POV:
I slowly started to wake up, noticing the feel of cold metal against my skin. I was sitting in a truck bed, my wrists tied together with a thick rope, and through the slits in the canvas tarp above my head I noticed that we were headed through a desert. I reached up tentatively and felt a trickle of sticky blood smeared across my forehead.
What happened?
Suddenly everything came rushing back to me.

*flashback*
“I’ll be back with your coffee in just a second Mr. Moore.” I told the elderly gentleman sitting at the corner booth.
“While you’re at it Cait, can you be a dear and fetch me a slice of that Key Lime pie? But make it a small one-I’m watching my figure you know.” He shouted back cheerfully with a wink.
“Sure thing Mr. Moore.” I replied, knowing that he came in every day for a piece of pie and was just joking around.
Minutes later I heard screams of horror and rushed out from the kitchen.
The old man was sprawled across the floor and my stomach lurched as I noticed a stream of blood trickling from his side.
Suddenly I felt someone roughly grab my arm.
“C’mere- now be a good girl and show open up that register for us.” The man growled, pressing a gun to my temple with his free hand.
While the other man went around to the customers and collected their valuables, I opened the register. My hands trembled uncontrollably as I placed the money in a paper bag, the cold metal of the gun a constant reminder that I could easily be the next casualty.
“Okay were good J.” The second man shouted gruffly, dropping a thick gold watch into his sack. The man behind me grunted and started to pull me towards the door.
“What are you doing?” the second man said nervously, “we can leave her here-“
“No- I think that we’ll take her with us, maybe have a little fun…” he laughed. “Ain’t that right sugar?”
I was completely lost for words, a million thoughts raced through my head and I could feel the sting of hot tears trailing down my cheeks.
Next thing I knew, I was thrown into the back of a pickup, my head hit the corner of a heavy toolbox and everything went black.
