It was a cold and rainy night. It fit the way I felt really well. Almost too well. My best friend, Erin, and I had just come from a terrible Red Sox game. All nine innings were full of rain and shouting from this really annoying chubby guy eating a hot dog next to us. Right now we were headed into Star Bucks for, well, coffee. I sat down at the nearest table I saw and crossed my arms on it so I could rest my chin on my arms.
“Do you want me to get both of our orders?” Erin asked me. I just shrugged. She tilted her head at me and rolled her eyes. “I know exactly what will bring you're mood up.” She then walked away and up to the counter to order our drinks.
I just sat there and stared at the wall across from me. It was quiet. Almost too quiet. In fact, it was so quiet that I lifted up my head and looked around. No one except for me, Erin, and the people who worked here were in Star Bucks. Creepy. I sat in silence waiting for my best friend to come back when I heard the entrance door open.
In came a boy about my age, who was wearing a bright read hat and huge black sungl*CENSORED*. That was wrong in two ways. 1) No one wears a hat with sungl*CENSORED* unless they're seriously stupid or something, and 2) it wasn't even sunny out. The boy suspiciously looked around. Then he started walking toward me, and before I knew it he was sitting directly across from me at the exact table I was at.
“Um...hi,” I said. The boy looked at me and nervously smiled. “Can I help you?”
“Um....I just need to sit here for a second, alright,” he said. I gave him an odd look.
“Well, do you have a name?” I asked. He lifted his head toward me and he looked confused. “Do you have a name?” This time I said it slower.
“Uh, yeah, its uh....Nick,” he said with a half smile. “And yours?” Did he actually talk to me without me having to say something first?
“Emily,” I replied simply. I looked at the Nick and now noticed he was fidgeting... a lot. He couldn't keep his hands still to save his life. He kept mumbling things under his breath, but I could only hear one thing he said.
“This was all Joe's idea,” he said. I looked at him more closely.
“Who's Joe?” I asked and he looked at me. He opened his mouth to say something, but before he could a group of about thirty screaming girls with camera phones ran in.
“Oh boy,” Nick said as he slid down in his seat. I looked around the room confused.
Shouts of “Where is he!?” and “Oh my gosh, is he seriously here?!” filled the room. I looked back at Nick who was almost so far down in his seat that I would have to get up to see him.
“Joe is so dead. Wait until I tell mom how he got me stuck in Star Bucks,” he muttered under his breath. But then he suddenly popped out f his hiding spot and smiled. “You can help me!”
“I can?”
“Yes! You just need to distract them while I run out the door,” he said to me with an even bigger smile.
“But why do I have to distr-”
“You just need to, OK,” he said. Then, he quickly took out a piece of paper and started scribbling something down. I think he noticed I was watching because he looked up at me.
“Go distract!” He shouted. I got out of my chair and tried to think of ideas for the girls to stop freaking out. Erin came over to me.
“What the heck is going on here?” I shook my head.
“I have no idea, but I have to distract them somehow,” I said. I finally thought of something. “He's in the bathroom!” All the girls looked at me but suddenly ran into the bathrooms. I sighed. After about two minutes of Erin and I just standing there a girl came out of the bathroom looking extremely disappointed.
“Who were you guys looking for?” Erin asked.
“You didn't hear? Nicholas Jonas apparently ran to this exact Star Bucks to hide,” she said, then walked away. I looked at Erin and then at the table I was sitting at. The boy was gone, and instead there was a piece of folded up paper in the middle. I went over and opened it it. It read:
Thanks for the help, Emily. If we meet again, and that time you're the one that is stuck in Star Bucks, I'll get you out of the situation.
Nick Jonas
