Joe ran his fingers through his dark brown hair as he ran through backstage. He caught up to his brother and sighed. The three were tired and worn out; but yet, there was one more part of the day that they needed to go through, the meet and greet.
He took a sip of his bottled water and splashed some water on himself. He was going to need the energy for the night if he wanted to get through the night. He opened his eyes and scanned his brother’s faces and by the look of things, they weren’t doing any better than him.
It was days like these Joseph Adam Jonas thought about the inner thoughts of his brothers. He wasn’t blind. He saw the emotions that leaked out of Nick and Kevin’s eyes. He saw the words that didn’t come out of their mouths.
“You good?” Joe asked Kevin.
Paul Kevin Jonas JR. was one of the easier to read brothers. He held that never ending ball of happiness in him. Whether or not his smiles were real at the moment, Kevin always meant well. Without hesitation, Kevin smiled and nodded.
“I can make it through the night,” Kevin looked at his younger brother, “You?”
“I can always make it through,” Joe grinned, “How wrong of you to mistake me.”
Joe threw his arms around his brother’s shoulders and stood in the middle of them. Kevin’s curls stuck to his sweaty forehead and neck, the night’s concert had his worn out. Joe’s straightened hair began to curl and thicken in the humid air and Nick’s hair was like usual, curly. Either way they looked, their fan’s loved them.
The older brothers watched as Nick slowly inched away from Joe’s embrace. He shook his head and stuffed his hands in his pockets. He stared at the ground, escaping his brother’s stares.
“Are you okay Nick?” Kevin raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah, you seem out of it,” Joe chimed in.
“I’m just not…” Nick sighed, “I’m going to sit this one out okay?”
“B-But.”
Joe and Kevin stood alone. Nick walked out before either one of them could protest.
“Should we go to him?” Joe asked his older brother.
Kevin took a moment as Joe stared at him. Joe tried his best to be there for both his brothers. But Nick was the hardest.
“He’s gotta learn how to fix this on his own.”
“What’s there to fix?” Joe asked.
“That, my dear old brother,” Kevin began walking to the Meet and Greet, “Is a mystery.”
