It was a lazy Sunday afternoon, and Kevin, Nick and Joe were bored out of their skulls. They were sprawled out on the couch, half-asleep as Joe idly flipped through TV channels. Every so often he found something semi-interesting, and they would watch it half-heartedly.
After about an hour of this, Joe stumbled upon something that made him sit up straight. “Kevin! Nick! Whoa! Old school All That!!!” He bounced up and down on the couch. His brothers lazily sat up, and the three of them watched the show. By the end of it, they were laughing hysterically; Joe even had tears in his eyes. When it was over, Kevin said, “Man, I forgot how much I loved that show.” “I miss all the old shows” Joe agreed. “So…what are we going to do now? I’m tired of watching TV. Nothing else good is on anyways.” Nick piped in.
Joe and Kevin looked at each other; it was a good question. “Um….” Joe started, unsure of what he was going to say. Looking at his younger brother’s curls, an idea sprang into his head. “I know what to do!” Joe cried, jumping up. “Come with me, you guys” he said, snapping his fingers. Nick and Kevin exchanged a wary look, then followed Joe out of the living room.
Joe led them to the bathroom, and pointed to the closed toilet. “Sit” he told Nick. To Kevin, he said, “I think I’m gonna need some help. This isn’t going to be easy.” “Wait, Joe - what the hell are you doing?!” Nick was getting nervous. “What does it look like I’m doing? Me and Kev are gonna straighten your hair!” Joe responded. “Oh no you aren’t!” Nick stood up and tried to walk out of the bathroom, but Joe blocked the doorway, a crazed grin on his face. His face softened as he said, “Come on, bro, just let us try it. If you don’t like it, you can just jump in the shower and it’ll be undone. Come onnnn, I’m soooo bored!” He pulled a puppy dog face. “Ok, ok fine!” Nick agreed. “But if I don’t like it, it’s over. You never get to do this again. I’m only letting you cause we have nothing better to do” He sat down again, and Joe and Kevin got to work.
At first, Nick kept moving, and saying “ouch!” every few minutes. But after a while (and a few death glares from his brothers), he sat still and shut up. After a few hours, and almost falling asleep, Joe shut off the flatiron and said, “All done! Ready to see?” “Not…really” was Nick’s answer, but he stood up and looked in the mirror anyway.
“Sooo….what do you think?” Joe asked. Nick couldn’t really answer that. He was shocked by what he saw in the mirror. It wasn’t him. It couldn’t be him. “Um….” was all Nick got out. Then he just shoved Joe and Kevin out of the bathroom and turned on the shower.
Joe and Kevin just stood outside the door as they heard the water running. They could have sworn they heard him singing “No Air,” as well as something that may or may not have been the Rubber Ducky song. After that, the water shut off and the door open, and there stood Nick, his hair dripping and curly again.
“Remember, you promised - never again” he said to Joe, pointing a finger threateningly. “Ok, ok” Joe put his hands up. “Whatever you say, bro. Besides, it wasn’t really your look,” he said, snickering a bit. Once he saw the look on Nick’s face, he stopped laughing. “OK!” he said one more time, and Nick went off to his room.
Turning to Kevin, Joe said, “Oh well - it was fun while it lasted. What should we do now?”
