Chapter 1
(Mid-November 2004)
Seven years later those same six kids were standing in that same living room, but now Kevin was seventeen, Spencer and Joe were fifteen, Crystal was fourteen, and Katie and Nick were both twelve. This time however they weren’t watching their favorite teen superheroes save the city of Angel Grove…
“How could you keep this from us?!? What exactly were you thinking?” Crystal yelled at Joe.
The boys had gotten a record deal and were leaving for Hollywood the next day to begin their lives as rock stars…the only problem was they were leaving their best friends and had forgotten to tell them until they day before they had to go. The girls were heartbroken and had no idea what to think of their best friends.
“Crys come on! Please be reasonable!” Joe pleaded with his friend, they really hadn’t meant to wait so long but they couldn’t figure out the words to tell them and truly they didn’t want to leave the girls but they had to. Joe stood trying to reason with Crystal, but it wasn’t going to well.
In another part of the room Nick and Katie were going at it.
“NICHOLAS JERRY JONAS! How dare you wait and tell me!!!” Katie shrieked in her twelve year old voice.
“Katie…Purple…”
“don’t you dare call me that right now!”
“Please…you have to understand…” he really wanted to make everything better, he didn’t want to see his friend hurting like this over something that he had done…she had to understand that he didn’t mean to hurt her, that is the last thing he ever wanted to do!
“NO! That Nick is where you are most certainly wrong! I do not have to understand why my best friend would wait until the day before he is leaving for five months to tell me that he was going away!” She started to sob. Nick tried to comfort her but she didn’t let him. “It’s not fair!” she yelled as pushed him out of the way and ran out the door. Crystal followed her because she wanted to make sure that she didn’t get hurt and she had said all that she needed to, to the boys who were formerly her best friends.
The only girl left was Spencer, whose conversation with Kevin had been pretty quiet until that point.
“I HATE YOU!”
“Spence…I don’t want that to be the last thing you say before I leave”
“Well we all want things Kevin, like I WANTED you to tell me that you were leaving sooner that THE DAY BEFORE YOU LEFT!!”
“Please” Kevin pleaded with the blond girl, he really wanted her to understand…
“No! I HATE YOU! Stephani lets go!” she yelled again as she grabbed her coat and her little sister and ran out the door after her two friends.
The boys ran out the door to follow their friends but they had run to fast and there was no way to tell where they had gone to. They tried to call them, but the girls refused to answer the phone, knowing exactly who it was on the other end.
The next day the boys left, they hoped that their friends would have cooled off overnight and would come to say goodbye, but they didn’t. The girls were still far too upset to come and watch their best friends leave them. And so off the boys went to Hollywood, to fulfill their dreams, leaving their best friends sad and lonely in New Jersey.
