Alright, I've been working on this one-shot for a long time. Since I never was satisfied with the way it was, erasing paragraph after paragraph I finally wrapped it up thanks to Dana, little inspiration always does the trick ;] How crazy was it that it was written about her too? Haha :] Enjoy!
Call him mine;
I can call him mine..
It was only a matter of time
Before I got tired of your ways
I tried to make you fire,
But you were only ice
And you didn't seem to wanna change
It was a beautiful night, stars twinkling whilst the moon illuminated the sky, there was a girl taking a stroll in the abandoned park of Wyckoff, New Jersey. Those last couple of months that girl with the dark brown locks, piercing dark chocolate coloured eyes and rose petal coloured lips had endured more sorrow then you’d ever realize. As the girl seated herself down on one of the park benches, covered in arid and crumpled up leaves. This bench was the place she, and the boy that had been haunting her dreams, sat and experienced their highs and lows. They actually met in this very park, they fell in love in this very park. He asked her to be his, on that very bench, after a love full of tears and heartache she broke his heart on this very bench. They loved each other, more than either one of them ever realized or knew. His busy schedule had grown to be a strain on this girl’s heart. He never called, and when he did all he told her was: “Sorry that I didn’t call sooner, but I can’t talk right now. I miss you.” By now this sorrowed girl named Dana could recite his lines for him, since it never changed. She missed him, she tried to come to his shows as much as she could. Yet she always stood there in a sea of insanely obsessed girls, screaming his name loud and clear. She was so ordinary, yet truly extraordinary. It was only fate that the rockstar fell for the drop dead gorgeous girl, who you might underestimate by first glance. Was it fate how he met her in the park and fell for that beautiful and sincere girl who was being dragged along in the park by her Chocolate Labrador, named Duke. It was an embarrassing meeting, though the two both levitated towards each other instantly. After the inseparable couple braved the impossible, they broke apart, both were left heartbroken.
So then I looked at someone new
And he was looking back at me too
Saw that I was hurt
Knew just what to say
Knew just how to push the pain away
You know I need stability
And you know you can't give it to me
Dana soon met someone new, he was the earth beneath her feet, he was her gravity. He kept her going, she didn’t love him like she loved that rockstar boy, but he treated her the way she should’ve been treated all along. He was there for her, in times the rockstar boy never was. He was perfect to people on the outside looking in, but he just wasn’t him. Dana sat on that bench that held so many painful memories. Somewhere in the back of her head she believed with all her heart he would return to her, she believed she really held his heart and that nobody or anything could tear them apart – but everything changed, everyone and everything just seemed to prove her wrong.
My sun may never rise the way it did with you,
And he may never kiss me the way that you'd do
But at least he makes me feel like a part of his life
At least he doesn't make me cry
I know I can call him mine
She gently brushed off the leaves, rising up from the bench. They remained friends, that was their choice. He reached out to her, but all she did was back away. All he caused, was painful memories resurfacing, attacking her heart with a throbbing pain that led down deep inside her heart’s very core. “If there’s a hole in your heart, you gotta pull it together. It takes the courage to st-.” Dana looked down at her cell phone, there he was. Her one true friend, the one she could call hers. “I’ll be home soon baby, don’t worry.” Dana softly spoke in her cell phone, her boyfriend sympathetically yet worriedly agreeing as he hung up. Dana sighed as her eyes shot down to the ground as the text flickered on her screen: “Meet me tonight. You know where I’ll be. – Nick.” He said he’d be there, she refused to let herself go, but at the very last moment she came, but he wasn’t there. Why did she come? To just be let down, as he never failed to do just that. She collapsed back on the bench, pulling up her feet as she wrapped her arms tightly around her kneecaps, digging her face into them.
Though when I call him on the phone
I never feel butterflies
I know that I can trust
He'll always give me love
And I know mine will grow for him in time
David was the like the picture perfect boyfriend, he was athletically built, all the girls around the school swooned when he past them by, he was the centre forward on the school’s soccer team, a straight A’s student, polite and respectful and most of all he made Dana feel like she was a part of his life. All her feelings for that rockstar were tucked away in her heart’s “black box”, for no one to find, to never resurface again. But how can you forget someone who happens to be the angel of your nightmares?
Dana’s fair face lifted up from her knees, he wasn’t there, he didn’t come. Did she honestly expect him to come? Somehow Dana had the feeling in the pit of her stomach that tonight would be different, different from every single let down, her hopes being lifted up by a few simple words, crashing back down in the dumps when he didn’t show. Tonight, was just their relationship, on replay. From her pocket Dana got out a crumpled up note, on it she scribbled: “I was here, you weren’t – Dana. PS: At least he doesn’t make me cry.” Dana grimaced as the note slowly twirled down on the bench, looking down she pulled up her hoodie as she walked away, she walked away making sure this time he’d be sorry. She walked away, but she knew if he only asked, she’d stay. Walking away, knowing she’d be back again.
He tells me that I'm beautiful
And I never ever heard that from you
He doesn't cause me pain
Tears falling like the rain
And though I'm still in love with you
You know I need stability
Bewildered, confused, what was he doing? Worriedly storming into the park, his shades and dark curls covering most of his face as he followed the street lights leading to the bench. Empty, not even any leaves to keep the bench warm, but a little white scrap of paper caught Nick’s eye as he bent down, feeling his hands shaking as he read the note. Grimacing he looked up, desperately praying he didn’t wreck it again.
My sun may never rise the way it did with you,
And he may never kiss me the way that you'd do
But at least he makes me feel like a part of his life
At least he doesn't make me cry
I know I can call him mine
It wasn't easy letting go but I know that I had to think of the long run and say goodbye
And find someone who appreciates me even though even though, even though
“Where’d you go, I miss you so.. it’s like it’s been forever that you’ve been gone.. please come back home.” A soft melody resonated throughout the park, Nick’s head jerked towards the direction of the serene, broken melody humming through the air. Dazed and disorientated he found himself by the park’s pond, captivated seeing a girl on her knees by the edge of the pond, intently looking in the water. He knew who she was, he knew how much he hurt her. He knew what he did was unbelievable, and unforgivable, and time after time she believed him, and she forgave him. Cautiously he approached her, feeling a throbbing pain in his heart, fearing what would happen if things wouldn’t go the way he hoped. There he stood, right behind her, he gawked at their reflection in the rippling water. Her eyes widened seeing he had joined her reflection, her hand slowly reached out over the water as she traced his reflection, burning it in her memory.
My sun may never rise the way it did with you
And he may never ever kiss me the way that you'd do, that you'd do...
My sun may never rise the way it did with you,
And he may never kiss me the way that you'd do
But at least he makes me feel like a part of his life
At least he doesn't make me cry
I know I can call him mine
Slowly and gently Nick rested his hand on her bare shoulder, sending tingles running down her spine, causing an indescribable feeling of butterflies in her stomach. His hand slowly ran down her arm, folding around her lightly shaking hand as he tenderly pulled her up, she met his deep dark brown eyes and she knew she had already reached the ground of falling into the deep pit of love. The crumpled up note she had left on the couch was even more crinkled than before as Nick pressed it in her hand. On the back side of the note he had scribbled something, in his pointy handwriting: “Don’t let go.” Dana looked up feeling tears in her eyes, he was messing with her mind, or was he just clarifying what the cosmos had in store for them? “Nick, what am I supposed to do with this? You know I’m with David.” Dana nearly pleaded to him, seeing Nick was just as fragile as she was right now. “You know you don’t love him.” Nick spoke calmly, holding her hands like it was the only thing keeping them alive. “But he doesn’t make me cry, he gives me stability, he makes me feel like I’m a part of his life. I know I can call him mine.” Dana implored weakly as her eyes cut through Nick like razor blades. “I’m all yours Dana.” Dana shook her head, feeling her hands quivering, her knees wobbling as she crashed into Nick with a despairing embrace, Nick’s arms slowly wrapped around her as he gently stroke her dark brown locks. Dana’s arms flung around his neck as a tear rolled down her cheek, even though he made her cry, despite him giving her instability. She being him with here right now was simply meant to be. Oh and both couldn’t deny how good each other’s embrace felt as a small smile curved on both of their lips.
The sun may never rise again like it did with you
And he may never ever kiss me the way you'd do
But at least he makes me feel like I'm a part of his life
He doesn't make me cry
Doesn't make me cry
He doesn't make me cry
I know I can call him mine
