She secured herself into her car, checked her mirrors and put it into reverse. Before she knew it, she was headed home from the mall. Shopping bags were piled into the backseat, her rewards of a strenuous week and a rather large bonus from her boss. She pulled up at a stoplight and ran her fingers through her long brown hair while waiting for the light to turn green. Turning on the radio, she glanced in her rearview mirror, admiring the BMW behind her. If only she had the funds to make the monthly payments, maybe she would be driving one too.
She quickly stepped on the gas, and soon signaled that she was changing lanes. The person driving the BMW also got over, but she thought nothing of it since traffic was horrible. Her route home consisted of side roads since the main road was congested during this time of the day. Five minutes later, she glanced back and there was the same BMW as before. Worriedly, she pulled out her cell phone and dialed a familiar number.
“Hello?”
“Brittany, I think someone is following me.”
“Marni, come on. I’m sure it’s nothing.”
“I’m in the car, driving home, and a BMW has been following me ever since I left the mall.”
“Are you sure? Maybe they live in the same neighborhood as you or something.”
“Look, all I know is that I’m starting to get freaked out. I’ll call you when I get home.”
“Ok, be careful.”
She closed the cover on her phone and placed it on the passenger seat. After a few more miles, the car was still behind her. She developed a plan that she would pull in the garage and shut the door quickly behind her, that way if the person was following her, they couldn’t get into her house.
Finally reaching her neighborhood, she flipped on her right turn signal and pulled in. As predicted, the car behind turned with her. She made her way to her house and followed through with her plan. Once inside, she set her keys on the kitchen counter and carried her shopping bags up to her room. Glancing out the window, she noticed that the car was parked across the street. She picked up her phone and dialed Brittany once again.
“Did you make it home ok?”
“Yeah, but the car is sitting across the street from my house. I don’t know what to do.”
“I’ll tell you exactly what you need to do… CALL THE COPS!”
“Wait, someone is getting out.”
“Well what does the person look like?”
“I can’t tell yet, they’re not close enough”
“Is the person hot?”
“Brittany, this is not the time for that. My life could be in danger.”
“I’m sorry, just stay calm.”
“OH MY GOD…”
“Marni, what? What happened? Are you ok? Talk to me!”
“It’s… It’s…. It’s…. Joe Jonas… Oh My God”
“WHAT?! You’re joking, I don’t believe you.”
“I’m being serious, I gotta go answer the door.”
“Oh my god, you are serious! Is Nick with him? Can you get his number for me?!”
“Goodbye Brittany”
Rushing down the stairs, she checked her appearance in the mirror. Thank god she decided to put on something decent before going to the mall. He rang the doorbell and she slowly opened the door. He smiled at her before she greeted him.
“Can I help you?”
“Uh, hi. I’m Joe.”
“I know who you are.”
“Uh, right. Well, I saw you at the mall and I wanted to ask you for your number, but I got nervous and….”
“And you decided to follow me home?”
“Yeah, it seems that way.”
“What happened? Did you get tired of fans chasing you, so you decided to stalk someone to see how it felt?”
“Well no, I wanted your phone number. I just went about it the wrong way I guess.”
“So let me get this straight, you saw me at the mall and tried to talk to me, but you got nervous and I left. So you hopped in your car and followed me home, in hopes that you’d finally get my number?”
“Yeah, pretty much.”
“Well, I almost called the police on you. You had me fearing for my life the entire way home. What started out as a pretty good day, has just turned into a really odd one.”
“Let me make it up to you. Can I take you out to dinner?”
“You have an odd way of showing that you like someone Mr. Jonas, but I don’t see why not.”
And with that she grabbed her purse and he walked her to his car. He opened the door for her and she graciously got in. After buckling her seatbelt, he started the car and they pulled away. She glanced in the side mirror and noticed Brittany furiously running down the street and thought to herself, “It always feels like somebody’s watching me.”
