Backstage at the Concert
You would think that growing up as the sister of a famous boy band, I would be privileged. But of course I’m not that lucky. Possibly because I don’t actually look like my brothers but I think its cause I’m just their cute little sister. Most people wouldn’t even know if I was standing right there with them that I was their little sister. They all have that same blond hair and those same brown eyes. But then you come to me and I have brown hair and blue green eyes… well mostly one of my eyes is partly brown.
“Crystal move.”
That would be Zac, now I bet you are racking your memory trying to figure out which boy band had a boy named Zac. I’ll give you two little hints, there are three of them and then all I can say is MMMBop. Did you figure it out? No… It’s Hanson people! HANSON! That’s right I’m Crystal Hanson.
I didn’t have everything that everyone else had growing up and what I had I worked my butt off for. My parents believed that nothing in life was free and that if you want something it is even more rewarding when you can buy it yourself. Which explains why I am working backstage at one of my brothers shows, just so I could see the Jonas Brothers perform the same day.
“CRYSTAL! Why are you back here you are no help?”
Isaac this time, which yea I am seriously no help I admit that. Cause I had not a clue what was going on. Usually if I ever went to their concert, which I really hadn’t since I was like 15, I hid backstage, in their ‘conference room’ and wrote stuff the whole time.
“Crystal. I know you want to see them so bad but your brothers are right. You are no help.”
And that is coming straight from the mouth of one of my two best friends. She’s actually been working for my brothers for a few years now. Spencer is right though I am no help.
“Crystal. Just go hang in the conference room. We have work to do.”
That is my other best friend, Stephani she seems stuck on the thought that I can’t do anything too. Which I know I can’t but Stephani is sixteen how did she get a job with them and how was she better at her job than I was at my assignment of the day? Whatever.
With a little sigh I make my way to the conference room and grab a hold of some food before sitting down on a couch. I slip one of my iPod headphones in and grab my notebook from it’s normal spot on the side of the object. Everyone seems to know that if I am going to be at a concert I will be in the conference room on the couch.
My fingers start to write out the words and I can’t help but smile reading them over.
Growin up with the flashes all around me.
Trying so hard to make my parents proud.
Growin up with all the vicious rumors.
Trying so hard to make my voice loud.
But whose gonna hear me if I’m standing behind the curtain.
And whose gonna see me if I walk away from it all.
Whose gonna know me if I start my life over.
Whose gonna love me if I leave them behind.
I don’t want to be in their shadows anymore.
I don’t want to be just their little sister.
I want to be something so much more.
I want to mean something to someone Lord.
I want to make a difference in this world.
I want to prove I’m not that little girl.
But to do that I have to spread my words.
“That’s really good…”
My eyes turn up realizing that I was singing aloud and someone was actually right them listening to me. And then my eyes go wide when I realize who it is.
“Holy Jonas Brothers.”
“We’re Holy now… Cool…”
Yea that’s right the Jonas Brothers were standing there looking down at me and all I could so was stare. And of course that is when the five most important people in my live walked in. Zac, Isaac and Taylor were seemingly calm, I’m not sure that they knew who the boys were, while Stephani and Spencer both looked from the boys to me to the boys again.
“Crystal I see you finally got the idea.”
“Shut up Clarke.”
“Don’t call me that.”
Hahah yea Isaac’s real name is Clarke, Taylor’s is Jordan and Zac’s is well Zachary. Spencer hurries over to the boys and whispers something in their ears causing all three of them to look from me to the boys. Isaac raises his eyebrow and nods, Taylor just chuckles and laughs, while Zac sort of glares at the boys.
“Hey we’re Hanson. I’m Isaac that is Taylor and that is Zac.”
“I’m their assistant Stephani.”
“I run the tour I’m Spencer.”
“We’re the Jonas Brothers. I’m Kevin this is Nick and the one staring at the food like he’s never eaten before is Joe.”
“Who are you?”
“Crystal. I’m their little sister.”
“You are a Hanson?”
“Yea thanks for saying it like that…”
“Sorry I just never knew that they had a sister.”
“Um we have three sisters and another brother.”
Taylor there pointing out the semi obvious.
“There are seven of you.”
Wow… well at least we know Joe can count.
Every one’s eyes turn to me and I blush figuring out why.
“I said that out loud didn’t I?”
“Yes.”
“Sorry Joe…”
Of course I have to make fun of the one I like out loud and get him to hate me, of course I would do that, of course. Stephani and Spencer both come sit on the couch, squishing me between them and I send my two best friends looks.
“Crystal and Joe sitting in a … Ow… tree k-I-s…ow…s-I-n-g. first comes OW!”
Stephani was singing the song softly to me and all the ows were because I kept jabbing her with my elbow hoping she would shut up.
“Well girls we have to go perform which means Spencerkat, Stephani… er… Stephanibear,” the look Stephani sent Zac there was hilarious I wish you could have seen it, “you have to work.”
My brothers leave and as soon as they are out of the room Spencer and Stephani walk over to the older and younger Jonas boys leaving me with the middle one.
“So…. Sorry about what I said.”
“It’s cool Crystal that’s pretty.”
I blush redder than ever before hearing that comment. I mean Hello Joe freaking Jonas Mr dead sexy in anything but even better with nothing on just said my name was pretty. If he said I was I would probably die.
“And it fits cause you certainly are a pretty girl.”
And that is my cue to die. Well really just giggle like a little school girl. Causing Stephani and Spencer to look at me and laugh. Stephani removes her phone from her pocket and taps away at it, when my phone starts to go off playing her ring tone a minute later I understand.
Crystal and Joe sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G. First comes love then some marriage then comes Joe IN the baby carriage. : ) love you…
I send her a look across the room and then realize that her and Nick are talking to deeply for her to notice. I sigh and turn my attention back to Joe who is… playing with my phone.
“What are you going?”
“Trying to send Stephani a text message back but your keys are so little.”
He had the phone tilted the wrong way trying to type. I decide right then and there that I am never going to question Joe about anything anymore. He hands me my phone back after a second and we sit talking until my phone starts to play Fences again. I look down at my phone and frown this time having not a clue what Stephani was talking about.
You tell Nick that! I will not tell him what you think of … that part of his body! Gah enjoy Joe and leave my Nicholas alone you pedophile. Yea I said it.
My eyes turn to Joe and he tries his hardest to look the other way. She sighs handing the phone over to Joe. He reads the message and laughs aloud causing everyone to look over at them.
“That was him not me Stephani.”
“EW! JONASCEST! GROSS!”
“I was kidding.”
“Ew Spencer come see what Joe said about Nick!”
“I was kidding!”
After a few more random shouts across the room we start to talk normally in our pairs again. Soon my brothers are done and it’s time to get back to work, which basically just meant me sitting there doing what I had been doing, except now I was in the company of Joe and Nick and Kevin, for a little while longer that is. Then they had to make their way to the stage which was actually kind of sad but I can tell you my day was made because right before the left Joe sent himself a text from my phone, weirdo, and then sent me one back from his phone so that we had each other’s numbers.
“So how was it?”
“Best Backstage experience ever.”
“You can say that again.”
Stephani, Spencer and I leave the arena together happy to have met the boys and better yet got their numbers.
