Love and Guitars
Her fingers touch the strings of the guitar and she sighs knowing that she’d never be able to afford it. She was stuck with the old, damaged one that she played every day at her house. With a sigh she starts to walk away from the guitar until she hears a male voice which stops her dead in her tracks.
“That is a gorgeous guitar there.”
Her eyes turn and she spots a boy who is very familiar looking but not sounding.
“May I help you?”
“Oh I was just saying that guitar it’s gorgeous.”
“Yea it is. It’s also the most expensive thing in here. So do you need anything or can I go sit over there and listen to my iPod.”
“You can go listen to your iPod.”
She smiles slightly and then walks off sitting behind the counter plugging her iPod into the deck and switching it to CrushCrushCrush. The song starts to play and she nods her head up and down with the music a smile on her face.
Suddenly a little voice cuts through the music, causing her to look down and smile. It’s a little boy, who can’t be more than 7 and he is grinning up at her.
“Want to hear a joke.”
“Okay.”
She smiles and waits for the little boy to start his joke.
“Why did the Earth cross the road?”
She smiles knowing the answer.
“I don’t know why did the Earth cross the road?”
“Cuase there was a hot Jupiter on the other side.”
She laughs along with him and then talks until her favorite song by her favorite band comes on. When the little boy hears the music he looks shocked at her and then runs off, leaving her wondering what she did that was so wrong.
“Hey are you a fan?”
“Of who?”
“The Jonas Brothers.”
“No I just have them on my iPod. Yea I am a fan.”
“Oh….”
The little boy moves his face out from behind that boys leg and frowns at her with big sad eyes.
“What did I do?”
“What do you mean?”
“Why is he so scared of me?”
“I’m not sure she’s a fan.”
This voice comes from another boy this time one with shaggy curly brown hair. It only takes a second for her to recognize that boy and her eyes turn back to the first boy and then the little boy.
“No wonder. No I am a fan. I just completely and totally zoned out apparently though. Sorry to scare you Frankie. I didn’t mean too. I should have know I love your joke. I think I might tell it to my friends.”
“Really?”
“Yea.”
She smiles at him and then her eyes drift up to his older brother. Her eyes lock with his for a second before she blushes and looks down.
“So can I help you guys with anything?”
“Can I have your number.”
She looks shocked at the boy and then he winks at her and she blushes again.
“If it means that you will stop making me blush sure.”
She writes down her number on a piece of paper and hands it over to him causing him to smile wider.
“Okay Joe now that you’ve got her number can we go?”
“Yea. I’ll call you later.”
She just nods her head and watches the three boys leaving. They are gone for about a minute when her phone starts to ring again.
“Hello?”
“Hey so you want to hang out with me when you get off work?”
“Didn’t you just leave? How does that qualify as later?”
“Well see I waited a whole minute.”
“Oh a whole minute.”
They keep talking and when her shift ends she agrees to meet up with him for something to drink.
Soon every chance the two get they are together happy and enjoying each others company and then he has to tell her the bad news.
“Sarah I’m leaving.”
“Leaving?”
“Tour you know the thing that I gave you tickets for.”
“Oh yea that.”
“Yea that. I love you Sarah you know that right?”
“Yea I know Joe. I’m gonna miss you.”
“I’m gonna miss you too Sarah.”
“So don’t go.”
“You know it’s not that simple.”
“Yea I know Joe. But I can hope.”
“Okay Sarah. Hope all you want.”
“I will. I’ll miss you.”
He gives her a tight hug and kisses her forehead. They continue to hang out up until the day he leaves and then they just agree to talk on the phone to one another every day. Until the day that Sarah is mad to begin with and Joe gets on her nerves.
“No you know what I don’t care. I hate you. I don’t ever want to talk to you again. So don’t bother calling me.”
She slams her phone shut and ignores his calls until he stops calling. She heads to work like normal and sits behind the counter doing absolutely nothing considering there are no customers. The bell above the door chimes, saying that someone is entering the store and she doesn’t both to look up, until they place her favorite guitar in front of her. It’s the one she was looking at when she first met him. She rings the person up and when she lifts her head to get the payment she spots him standing there. He hands her the money and when she starts to hand him the guitar she stops her.
“It’s for you.”
She looks shocked at him and as he makes his way to the door and flies around the counter and wraps her arms around him.
“I hope you know I’m burning up for you baby.”
“I’m burning up for you too.”
His face tilts down and his lips touch her own in a kiss.
