Looking For That Someone
Chapter 1
“Never going to happen, my friend. Look, girls are all over him,” Taylor pointed out to a shaggy haired blonde that walked by carrying bags of Hollister clothes.
“I can still have my dreams,” Gabriella said back. They burst into laughter while they tried to continue eating their ice cream. Suddenly Taylor threw her spoon down.
“Oh! What about him?” she said, nodding towards a dark haired boy. He laughed with a goofy smile and walked with a curly haired kid.
“Yeah. Look at him. He’s a total dork!” Gabriella said back. At that moment, the boy looked right at her, then to the other kid. The kid said something to him, and then they both started coming to the girls table. “Oh no, they’re coming over here...what do I say?”
“Come on, they look like great guys. Give him a chance.”
“Hello, ladies,” the older boy said. He put his hand out. “I’m Joe. And this is my little brother, Nick.”
“I’m Taylor, and this is Gabriella,” Taylor said. The girls both shook hands with them.
“Are you fine ladies alone on this wonderful afternoon?” Joe asked. “Because we have no one to accompany us while we shop. Nor do we have anyone to shop for.”
“Actually, we-“
“Would love to! Come on Gabriella, let’s get going,” Taylor said, tossing her cup into the trash. She grabbed her friend’s hand, who reluctantly got up from her seat. Taylor and Gabriella walked side by side with Joe just a footstep behind, and Nick a little farther back.
The girls began to turn into Urban Outfitters and Joe and Nick followed, disappointing Gabriella. She gave Taylor a look that said to make them leave, but Taylor just smiled back.
“So you girls like to shop here?” Joe asked. He picked up a shirt and showed it to them. “I’m sure this would look good on you,” he said with a wink. Gabriella rolled her eyes in disgust. Taylor pulled her over.
“Come on, he’s cute and he’s sweet. You need a guy like him,” Taylor said.
“No, I don’t. He’s just some stupid boy I’ll never see again in my life. If you think he’s so great, why don’t you ask him out?”
“I have someone. But come on, look at him. He’s adorable. Just get to know him, and then you’ll never see him again.”
“Fine. But just know this is not my idea of fun.”
“But it’s mine,” Taylor said before wandering back to where the 2 boys stood. Joe hardly noticed her come by, but his eyes were focused on Gabriella. The way her dark eyes sparkled and her long, wavy, brown hair flowed gave him chills. Never had he seen a girl so beautiful. And he was on a mission to make her his.
Joe walked over to where Gabriella searched through a rack of t-shirts. He came closer and closer to her body, and was surprised she didn’t move away. This would be the perfect time to start a conversation.
“So where do you live?” he asked.
“Wyckoff, it’s kinda far from here,” she responded, not taking her eyes off of the clothes.
“Wait, Wyckoff? I live there!” Joe exclaimed. His heart sped up, already planning on fun things they could do together. “Why haven’t I seen you around?”
“Well, I was home schooled for the longest time, and we were away all summer. I never really get out much either.”
“Wow, that’s so cool. Do you want to hang out sometime? We could play wiffle ball with my brothers, or get ice cream at Rita’s, or whatever you want.”
Gabriella stopped. This was exactly what she didn’t want to happen. She looked up at the boy, who had another goofy grin plastered on his face. In a way, he was cute. But more as the boy-next-door type, not a boyfriend.
“Um, I guess so. What’s your address? And number?” she asked, as much as she wanted to say no. There was something about his eyes that she couldn’t resist. She pulled out a piece of paper and 2 pens, ripped the paper in half, and handed it to Joe. They both quickly scribbled down their information. Suddenly a cell phone began going off.
“That’s mine,” Joe said. He pulled out his phone and looked at it. “My older brother. We probably have to get going now. Nice to meet you. I’ll call you later!” he said, running out of the store. “C’mon, Nick!” The 2 ran out, side by side, and out of view.
“Wait. Did he just say he’ll call you?” Taylor asked Gabriella.
“Yes, yes. Against my will. Like anything will happen,” Gabriella said. Deep down, something told her this guy was different than any other boy she meant. But she didn’t know if she really wanted that.
