Well here's the new chapter. It's a little boring right now, but I promise, it will be getting much better. Right now, I'm just setting the characters and such.
Chapter Two
Nick had just finished showing Nate some of the basics to the piano. He usually didn’t teach much on the first lesson, just a few things. He mostly tried to get to know the student as best as possible, make them feel comfortable.
“So, how old are you little man?” Nick asked the small curly hair boy who was now seated next to him on the piano bench.
“Six,” he replied with a toothy grin on his face, “but I turn seven really soon!”
“Wow, six years old. What grade are you in, first?”
“Yep! And my teachers name is Mrs. Weeks and guess what?”
“What?”
“She gave me gold star yesterday, because I’m the bestest kid in the class,”
“Are you now?”
“Yeah,”
“That’s great. So, why don’t we get started on the lesson then,”
“Ok,”
“You don’t seem to excited about it,” Nick said to Nate.
“My mommy is making me take these,”
“Oh,”
“Hey! She said you were in a band,” Nate asked Nick.
“Yeah, I was in a band. A few years back, with my brothers,”
“Are you not in the band anymore?”
“No,”
“Why?”
“Well, you sure ask a lot of questions. We got into a fight and now we don’t really talk anymore,”
“Oh, what did you fight over?”
“A girl. Let me tell you buddy, don’t start getting involved in them until you are much older. Things can get too complicated and you can end up loosing the one you love…. Well, would you look at the time. The lesson is already over. Why don’t we go talk to your mom and dad. You want to continue with the lessons little man?”
Nate thought about it for a few minutes. He liked Nick and maybe piano wasn’t to bad.
“Yeah, I guess,” Nick gave a small laugh.
“Ok, well, let’s go talk to your Mom and Dad,”
“No,” Nate simply said with a frown on his face.
“What?”
“Just my mom, I don’t have a Daddy. I never met him,”
Nick heart suddenly broke, what kind of a Dad would just leave his son. Especially a sweet kid like Nate. He patted Nate on the back and they continued to walk to the main room. There stood an older lady, who could no way be Nate’s mother.
“Grandma!” Nate ran up and into the arms of the woman, “Grandma, where’s mommy?”
“Oh, Nathan, your mom got called in to work. So, your going to go to my house and we’re going to have some fun, okay?”
Nick watched Nathan’s face, it now supported a frown, instead of the grin it had contained just a few minutes before. He obviously loved his mother a great deal.
“Grandma, this is Nick! My new teacher,”
Nick and Nate’s grandmother shook hands and exchanged a smile.
“Thank you for teaching him,” Nick just nodded his head, “Nate what do you say?”
“Thank you Nick,”
“So, I’ll see you next week little man?”
“Yep!”
“Ok, I’ll see you then,” Nick replied giving Nate a high five. He watched as the small boy walked hand in hand with his grandmother out to his car. Nick couldn’t put his finger on it, but there was something about this kid that he liked.
