Understand
The seventeen-year-old girl looked at the computer screen and her eyes filled with tears. She just needed a break a little break from this computer life she lead, a break so she could live in the real world again. She had a total of ten more days of school but she needed those ten days to be spent doing school work, she couldn’t spend them playing on the computer, not if she wanted to pass her senior year of high school. She had to pack up everything she had gotten in her seventeen years and put it in boxes to make the thirteen hour trip to her father’s house where she was moving. She had to figure out how to say goodbye to her best friend, and all her other friends, and move to some place where she had no friends at all.
She didn’t know how to tell them how much it meant to her that they all cared about her, but it meant the world to her. She had to figure out what to do though, she couldn’t spend the rest of her life writing stories about boy bands, as much fun as that is. So with a little sigh she opened a word document and started to type, to tell them exactly what was going on with her.
She typed about how much she loved the boys that she wrote about, they were the reason she got up some mornings. She typed about the friends she had gained in her five months on the site, some of the best friends she had ever had. She typed about the troubles she was having then, the move, passing high school, family drama, and boyfriend trouble. She typed til her fingers couldn’t type any longer and then she typed a little more.
The response was shocking, they didn’t want her to leave for any period of time, but they were understanding and said that she could be gone for a while as long as she came back. She smiled over that fact, she didn’t want to make her friends mad or sad but she had to do this for herself. She needed a break from this world, she would still be there but she wouldn’t be writing her stories like she had been before, before they only had to wait a day or two for an update, sometimes just minutes but now she was going to relax and read.
She didn’t want anyone else to even think of quitting, she wanted everyone else to keep writing, she was going to also, just only once and a while. She loved writing that was for sure and she loved everyone else’s words also. Tears formed when she saw her friends say they wouldn’t write again until she did. She didn’t want that to happen she wanted them to keep going, she wanted to live their stories out, instead of her own.
She sighed as she read the words she wrote and then saved them to her computer, she knew that there would be a time when she wasn’t there for good and they would all freak out, but for the time being she was still there, she might not have been writing but she was there. She wanted with all of her heart to write stories for these people she had grown to love. But she needed a break, it wouldn’t last long, probably only until she graduated high school, but she still needed it.
Her words formed a big blur as another tear fell down her cheek. She was tired and sick, sleeping hadn’t come easily in a while and she was starting to see things. She looked her words over once, twice and then a third time and with the smallest smile she could muster she posted her document for the world to see. She just hoped they would understand.
