Sometimes I have dreams

Crystal sat in her bedroom staring at the reflection in the mirror.  It showed a girl, who had it all, but felt so empty inside.  She needed to escape, just for a few hours, so she grabbed her keys and headed to her quiet sanctuary: the beach.  As she drove along the coastline, the wind blew through her hair, making it flow along behind her.  After parking the car, she gathered a blanket from her trunk, taking it with her onto the sand.  Removing her flip-flops, she made her way down to the water.  Laying out her blanket carefully on the cool sand, she walked along the water’s edge, hoping that she would gain insight into whatever was plaguing her mind.

The sun gently kissed her face as she sat down on the blanket, admiring the sunset over the ocean.  She thought about her life, and how something just wasn’t right, a piece was missing.  The waves crashed against the shore, breaking her endless trail of thoughts.  It clicked in her mind at that very moment.  What she needed was simple, something that required work but would fill the emptiness inside.  Love.

Seems like a dream

Her past relationships had been anything but memorable.  Each guy she dated was different in his own way, but the problem was, none of them were right for her.  Her past boyfriends all shared the same qualities: they were all self-centered, stuck up creeps.  Deep inside she just wished that there was one guy out there who would prove that they all weren’t the same.

She laid herself back on the blanket staring at the night sky, slowly overtaking what remained of the day.  Taking off her sunglasses and setting them next to her, she closed her eyes gently, absorbing the soothing sounds of the water.  Minutes later, she awakened to find that drops of water were now falling from the sky.  A light mist was now present, coming down on her as she sat there enjoying the refreshing change of atmosphere.  Soon enough, large droplets began to fall, something she wasn’t prepared for.  It seemed as though something angered the Gods above to release such a downpour.  Realizing that by the time she made it back to the car, she would be drenched anyway, she opted to stay where she was.  She loved it when it rained, because she could let herself go; free to be who she wanted.

Out of nowhere, a guy appeared, walking towards her with an umbrella.  She had been so consumed in everything around her, she failed to notice the car now parked next to hers near the roadway.  She found herself staring at him as he approached, noting his unusual choice of outfit: dark-wash skinny jeans and a simple t-shirt with the Superman logo embossed across the chest.  Her head was telling her to run, but she was following her heart, telling her to stay.  As he loomed closer, she noted the way his hair was damp from the rain.  Once straight, it was now beginning to frizz from the humidity.  His eyes told the story of sincerity, of boy who was in the same situation she found herself in.  When he finally approached her, he smiled and she completely let go of her heart.

As the rain fell, he placed the umbrella gently over them both as he began to speak, “Need some help?”  Unable to reply, with a simple nod, he began to collect her belongings in his arms.  Watching him intently, she noted the irony as she recalled her previous thoughts.  She wished for a hero, to come and rescue her from the constant battles she fought.  As they walked to their cars, he held the umbrella over her as she opened her driver-side door.  Turning to him, she smiled, “Thanks…” pausing after realizing that she hadn’t gotten his name.  “Joe” he said.  “Thanks, Joe”.  He rubbed the back of his neck nervously with his free hand, still clutching the umbrella in the other, “Do you think, maybe, I could call you sometime?”  She nodded sweetly as she programmed her number into his phone.  “I’ll call you… later… to make sure you got home ok.”  “I’ll be waiting” she replied.  Glancing down at his phone to retrieve her name, he said his farewell, “Bye, Crystal”.  “Bye, Joe.”

With that, she put the car into gear and began to drive home.  Joe was different.  She was finally able to let down the wall that had been surrounding her heart.  She found herself willing to give him a chance, and maybe, just maybe, he would be the one to save her from herself.

ugh i knew i should have gotten online yesterday but no....instead i didn't.
