Sooo, this came to me one day, and grew into an entire fanfic. I'm pretty excited about the amount of fluff in this story, haha. It's sort of a continuation of the one shot "And So Our Life Begins", but it's not necessary to understand this. Hope you all like it! =]
“Love, Dad”
Chapter One
“Now, would you like to know the gender of the baby?”
The curly-haired man stared at the ultrasound machine in trepidation, uncertainty written all over his face. His pacing around the room was interrupted for the time being, and he reached out blindly for the hand of the woman laying on the bed next to him. His pride at the small being on the monitor was scattered with the momentousness of the decision. Should they wait to find out when the baby was born? Or find out at that moment whether they would be raising a girl or boy? Whether they would be parents to a son or a daughter?
A soft squeeze to his hand brought Kevin back to reality with a slight start. His hazel eyes dropped down to the smiling face of his wife, who was laying on the bed that he was standing next to. The ultrasound technician was looking at them expectantly, her hand on the machine.
“Kevin…?” Ren asked tentatively, her voice soft and comforting.
Kevin knew she was really curious about the baby’s gender, but wasn’t going to force the issue. He smiled slightly at how amazing his wife was. She was extremely understanding of his hectic schedule, immensely supportive of his music, and an all-around caring and wonderful person. His emotional turmoil of a sort shouldn’t prevent her from hearing the news.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to know. Of course he was dying of curiosity to hear the answer. He had been since the wonderful day when Ren had announced to him and his brothers and their friends that she was pregnant.
No, it wasn’t lack of interest. It was the fact that Kevin was absolutely terrified. He had always wanted to be a dad, but now that the new title was looming up on him, more real now than it ever had been, he was scared. It was a natural reaction—he was worried he wasn’t prepared enough, that he wouldn’t be a good father, despite the assurances of his friends and family. But none of that was Ren’s fault, of course, so he wasn’t about to deprive her of the information.
“Let’s hear it,” he smiled, returning the hand squeeze gently. Ren turned her attention back to the woman at the machine, who swiveled back around in her chair, moving the paddle on her stomach. After a brief moment of deliberation, she turned back to the couple, who was watching her with bated breath and anxious expressions.
“It’s a girl.”
