If you could imagine Cleopatra's wedding; she probably wore only the finest silks and jewls there could be. Servants would spend months gathering materials, and if she didn't like them then they'd be gone in a flash with alternatives. Until that day came, and things were perfect.
I could only imagine. The pink rose pedals laid on the white aisle, making perfect way for the bride-to-be. The bridesmaids couldn't look any prettier dressed in periwinkle gowns. The tuxes just didn't do any justice to the woman, only escorting them as the perfect picture.
Pearls are said to be a lunar symbol. They stand for woman, for water, for love, and for marriage. All of which would be in spirit as she wore those. I had picked them out, and as I saw them hung around her neck, I couldn't help but cry. Her mother had grabbed my hand as she strode down the aisle, wearing her grandmother's veil. A family heirloom that she had chosen to relive. And it looked luminescent with the candlelight.
I had gone to at least 10 weddings in my lifetime. Each time I had seen one, I experience the same joy I felt in each couple. The very thought of marriage is wonderful, but you can't say the word "marriage" brings joy. When you love someone truly as to the extent of being bonded with them forever; well, that's not love. It's the gift of life. Someone to share your experiences with and support you through it all.
It never ceases to amaze me that weddings can bring chaos. The couple just wants things to be perfect. Of course, without letting the other know that they're "jumping into a pool of pirahnas, getting eaten by a shark, and then diving into the abyss." That's the first time I've heard that one, but I'm not so surprised.
Joe said that at the very thought of organizing a wedding. He even threw his cake out the window when he said it. I knew this was going to be hectic, for Joe never threw out cake. As a mother, it was my only duty to make things perfect. The white lilly boquet, his Armani tux, the catering, the church, the reception. It all had to be perfect, every last detail.
On my wedding day I wore lace and pearls, and so is she. My son is getting married before my eyes, and I still feel that same joy I felt as I watched other weddings.
