Chapter Thirty-Six
Nick’s POV
I walked down the busy street alone, minding my own business. I didn’t know where I was going, and didn’t really care. I just needed to get away for a while.
I missed Abigail terribly. I really did.
Sure, I barely new her, but I felt like I’d known her for a while. It was hard to explain, but I wanted to be with her every second.
Abigail’s POV
“So, Abigail, what do you want to do today?” Lily asked me as we ate the yummy pancakes that Craig had made.
I shrugged. “I’m, I don’t know.”
“That’s cool. I don’t know what I want to do half the time, but I end up having a good time anyway.” Craig smiled.
I smiled back. “Nice.”
“How about we just go and goof around today? We could go out to eat, go shopping, whatever you like.” Lily suggested.
“Okay, sounds good.” I smiled.
I showered and got dressed, then made my way downstairs to join Lily and Craig.
“Okay, so we’re not trying to invade your privacy or anything, we just want to know you better…” Craig began. “So we may ask you some random questions and stuff. Like what your favorite color is and stuff.”
“That’s fine!” I replied. “And my favorite color is orange, by the way.”
Craig and Lily laughed. “I think we’ll all get along just fine!” Lily laughed.
The car ride was kind of quiet, except for the radio. I could tell they wanted to make conversation with me, but just didn’t know how to. I wasn’t about to make the effort, because I didn’t want to start to really get attached to them one day, and the next be ripped apart from them, which was something that had happened to me a lot.
I kept wondering what and who I was, and what I was going to be. Did I have a future? Would I go to college? What was life going to be for me in a few days?
All of the sudden these thoughts came to my mind.
“We’re here!” Lily exclaimed in a singy-song voice.
We all proceeded out of the car, and started down the street towards the shops that lined them.
“If you see somewhere you want to go in, just let us know.” Craig said, and I nodded.
Nick’s POV
I walked out of Starbucks, coffee in hand, and started back down the busy Los Angeles street.
I still didn’t know where I was going or what I was doing, but I really didn’t care.
I sat down on a bench where no one else was sitting. There was some ad for a real-estate company on it that was faded and worn.
I people-watched while drinking my coffee and playing some random game on my phone.
I glanced at people walking by, and suddenly, my heart stopped.
Was that really her?
