“I love you Megan,” Joe said softly from the other side of the couch, his attention slowly drifting away from yet another chick flick that was playing on the television.
“Aww Joe, I love you too. You’re the best friend I could ever ask for!” Megan exclaimed happily. Friend. Every time Megan reminded him that they were only friends, his heart sank a little bit more. No matter how much Joe hoped and prayed that they could be more than friends, he knew it wasn’t possible; at least as long as she was still going out with Marcus. Just the thought of Marcus made Joe mad. He didn’t know much about him, but he knew one thing. He didn’t like him.
Joe thoughts were interrupted by Megan slowly sliding up next to him and resting her head on his shoulder. Joe looked down slightly to see dark bruises covering her arm.
He shot up out of his seat instantly and grabbed her arm to get a better look.
“Megan?! What happened??” Joe exclaimed, jumping out of his seat.
“Its nothing Joe. I was just being a klutz.” Megan mumbled, looking down at her lap.
“He did this to you didn’t he? Didn’t he?!” Joe roared, his face getting red with anger.
“Joe please, just drop it. If he knows you know, he might hurt you.” Megan pleaded.
“How long? How long has this been going on?!” Joe demanded.
“Five months.” Megan whispered.
“Five months!!?? Megan, why didn’t you tell me?” Joe said, tears coming to his eyes at the thought of someone hurting her.
“He told me not to tell you,” Megan said, her eyes remained staring at her hands.
“Megan! You can’t just let him keep doing this to you!” Joe exclaimed.
“Joe! Don’t you understand? He’s a dangerous person. He threatens me. If I ever broke up with him, he’d hurt me even worse. I can only imagine what he’d do to you.” Megan said through the steady stream of tears traveling down her face.
As soon as Joe was about to speak, Megan’s cell phone interrupted him.
She quickly grabbed her phone out of her pocket and looked at who was trying to contact her. As soon as her eyes scanned the name on the phone her face paled.
“Megan? Who is it?” Joe said in a concerned tone.
“I-Its Marcus. I h-have to get home. Right now.” She replied in a hurried voice.
“Why??” Joe questioned, a confused look spread across his face.
“He’s coming.”
