“Jen!! Come on!!” My best friend, Olivia, called.
“Coming!” I yelled back from my bathroom. I was getting ready for a party tonight. Olivia’s boyfriend was hosting it, and she invited me.
“Well come faster!” She yelled.
I rolled my eyes and finished putting on my lipgloss, grabbed my purse, and we were out the door.
“So, we need to hook you up with someone…” Olivia started.
I groaned. “I told you Olivia, no. I’m not ready”
“Okay, okay, But at least be looking. You can’t fly solo forever” she told me.
I wasn’t even close to ready though. My last boyfriend completely broke my heart when we cheated on me, and I saw him kissing one of my ex-best friends.

“Dude, hurry up!” Joe called.
“I’m hurrying! I’m hurrying!” I told him. He was getting annoying. It’s not like it was his party and he had to be there at a certain time. I didn’t even want to go. It’d just be another annoying party that the paparazzi tries to crash, and people get drunk. Not my idea of a fun Friday night.
I’d rather be hanging out with my friends….even though they’ll be there, I probably won’t even see them…unfortunately.
“Nick! Come on!” Kevin yelled.
“I’m right here!” I told him, standing directly behind him.
“Oh, sorry” Kevin said.
I rolled my eyes. “Let’s just go. I don’t want to be gone all night either guys, like last time.”
“Whatever Nick.” Joe rolled his eyes.
“I’m serious guys. I want to leave by 11:30, got it?” I told them.
“Mom said we can stay out until 1…” Kevin tried to say.
“11:30” I said firmly.
Joe groaned. “Whatever”

“Look, he’s cute” Olivia pointed out a guy that walked by.
“Olivia, I said NO DATING!” I practically yelled at her.
“Okay, okay. Sorry” Olivia said.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have yelled at you” I apologized. She got really emotional and mad when I yelled at her.
“It’s okay” she mumbled.
Drama queen.

“Maybe you need a girlfriend!” Kevin told me, about 3 hours after we got to the party.
“I don’t need a girlfriend Kevin. I’m good. I don’t even like anyone right now” I said.
“Well, here’s the perfect place to look!” Joe said.
“She’s hot” Kevin pointed out.
“No” I said.
“Okay, well, what about her?” Joe asked.
“No” I said firmly.
“What do you want?” he asked.
“To go home, and for ya’ll to leave me alone!” I exclaimed.
“We’re not leaving” Kevin said. “I’m driving, and I say no”
“Whatever” I groaned.

“Who is that?” I asked, noticing a guy across the room, sitting on the couch, looking bored.
“Who? Wait, you finally notice someone?!” Olivia asked, excited.
“I’m just asking who he is. He’s kinda cute…” I said.
“Go talk to him!” she pushed me.
“No” I told her.
“Go, you know you want to” Olivia said.
“Fine” I moaned, and got up off the couch we were sitting on.
“Hi, I’m Jen” I introduced myself.
The guy with curly hair and brown eyes looked up at me.
“Hey. I’m, uh, Nick” he stuttered.
I giggled. “Nice to meet you” Why did I just giggle?
“So, uh, hi” Nick said again.
“Hi” I said.
“Hi” Nick said, yet again.
“Hi” I said, again.
“Whoa, some vocabulary you two have going on there” Selena Gomez, who’d just sat down next to Nick, said.
“Oh, uh, are you two, dating?” I asked.
Nick and Selena laughed. “No, just friends” Nick said.
“Oh, that’s good” I smiled.
“So, uh, how about you. Are you dating anyone?” Nick asked, after Selena left us.
“No” I told him.
Awkward silence.
“Jen! We’re leaving!” Olivia called. She was at the door and it looked like she was about to burst into tears.
She and Aaron had just broken up.
“Um, I have to, go” I said, already leaving.
“No! Wait” Nick grabbed my arm.
I stopped. “Yeah?”
“Uh, will I see you again?” he asked.
“Hopefully” I told him, and left with my best friend.

“Who was that?” Kevin asked me. “She was kinda cute”
“Yeah. She was” I said, picturing her light brown hair and pretty brown eyes.
“What was her name? Did you get her number?” he asked.
“Jen, and no, I didn’t” I told him.
I wish I had though.

~2 weeks later~
“Jen, I’m going out to lunch, so you watch the store, okay?” My manager told me.
“Ok” I mumbled. I was starving, but I wasn’t going to back talk my boss. I’d almost gotten fired for that once.
“You can go after I get back” he told me, and left.
I worked at a music store that sold guitars, drums, things like that. I loved music, so it was perfect for me.
It’s just, not a lot of people always came, so it was pretty boring.
Especially when it’s raining outside.
I put my earphones into my ears and turned on my iPod. It’s not like anyone was going to come in.
I couldn’t stop thinking about Nick. Sure, he was nice, but probably superficial and shallow. Or not. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn’t. I barely knew the guy, but I did know he was in a band and a major rockstar. Everyone knows rockstars are superficial, shallow, and only care about themselves.
“Hey, um, where are your guitars?” Someone who’d just walked in the store asked me.
Whoa. People, on a day like this I thought.
“Um, over there” I told him, pointing.
“Oh, thanks.” He said, and walked over to where I’d pointed.
I looked up from my magazine and watched him walk.
Curly hair, about 5’8”….it couldn’t be.
“Hi, uh, do you need any help or anything?” I asked, walking over to him as he messed with a few guitars.
“Uh, no, just messing around. Trying to get away from it all” he said, not looking up at me.
“That was a great song” I complemented him.
“Thanks. Me and my brothers wrote it a long time ago. It’s called “Please Be Mine”. I keep thinking about this girl I want to sing it to, but I can’t find her. And I don’t know why I’m telling a complete stranger this, but whatever. You don’t mind, do you?” he asked, and looked up at me.
“Oh my gosh. Jen?” he asked.
“Yeah” I nodded, pulling a strand of hair behind my ear.
“Whoa, I, uh, um, I, well,” he stuttered.
“It’s okay. You don’t have to say anything. You weren’t supposed to tell me that. It’s cool, really” I said.
“I thought I’d never see you again. I’ve been looking for you…” he said slowly.
“Really?” I asked.
“Really” he said.
“Um, do you want to buy that?” I asked randomly.
He looked down at the guitar and laughed. “I was thinking about it…but it’s raining, and I don’t want to get it wet. Could I leave it here and get it later?” he asked.
“Yeah” I nodded.
“Um, thanks” he said after he signed his receipt.
“No problem” I told him, putting his guitar in the back with a piece of paper with his name on it.
“So, I’ll come by when it stops raining, is that okay?” he asked.
“Perfect” I breathed.
“Uh, I gotta go” he said, looking at his watch. “I promised my mom I’d be home…”
“It’s fine. I’ll, uh, see you around?” I asked.
“Yeah. Sound good” he told me, and started out the store.
Why was I letting him go? I liked him, right? Maybe even loved him…
He forgot his credit card I said, picking it up off the counter.
I ran out of the store and started after him, getting soaked.
“NICK! WAIT!” I called.
He stopped. “Yeah?”
“You forgot this” I said, handing him his card.
My hair was soaked, my t-shirt and jeans were soaked, and not to mention my Vans. He was wet too. But I didn’t care.
“Thanks” he breathed.
“No problem” I said
Nick started leaning into me, and I leaned back. He pushed my wet hair back with his hand gently, running his fingers through it.
We stood there, in the rain, kissing.
It was definitely a dear diary moment. Movie perfect.
Looking into his eyes, I saw perfection. He was perfect. I’d never met someone like him.
I’d found bottled perfection.
