I'll post everything so far, along with the new chapter:
Something Meant To Be
Sequel to Just My Luck
Prologue
“Great job tonight!” I said as Nick ran off of the stage. He sighed and wiped his face with a towel. Then he looked me in the eyes.
“Thanks. Dinner tomorrow?” he asked me.
“Love to,” I responded. He placed his lips on mine for a brief moment, then pulled away. He winked at me and grabbed my hand, giving it a tight squeeze. We walked together to the tour bus. Thankfully there was no after show meet and greet. I do love my fans, but over the past year things have gotten crazy.
After the success of my TV show, I did some other movies, in addition to another album and some tours. It’s been like that for nearly 2 years. My record label decided I needed a break, so that’s what I’ve been up to lately. But that doesn’t call off the fans one bit. Plus the Jonas Brothers are once again in full swing. They released yet another album, just a few days after Joe turned 21. He was extremely excited about that.
Joe did get his license, except everyone is too scared to drive with him. Nick also can drive, so we can actually go out on real dates. And yes, we are still together. Ashley and Joe are no longer seeing each other. Things just didn’t work out, but they can tolerate each other. Lizzy and Kevin are still the cutest couple, and so many rumors of a wedding have been going around. The ring on her finger is a promise ring, and when the boys finish touring Kevin wants to officially propose. Nick’s words, not mine.
And now we’re just living day by day. Nick just turned 19, and I turn 19 in about a week. We both own apartments in a fancy neighborhood, near the Jonas house. I hardly ever live in it. In fact I have a room at the Jonas house, my parent’s house, and some stuff at Nick’s place.
Each day is a new adventure. I meet new people every day. And I still do what I love most.
When we reached the tour bus, Nick pulled out a Guitar Hero guitar. “I’ve been practicing,” he said.
“Sure. You may be good at some things, but this is not one of them,” I said back. I leaned in to give him a quick kiss. “Now I hate you. You’re going down, bud.”
“Let’s see about that.”
We played Guitar Hero all night, and I beat him every time. But he is one determined guy.
Everything seemed so perfect. Any second with him was an enjoyable one. I couldn’t think of being with anyone else. It was like we were meant to be.
Chapter 1
“Wake up, baby. We’ve got an interview and you’re coming along.”
“Do I have to?” I said, rolling over. I felt Nick sit down on the couch beside me and stroke my hair.
“Yes, you have to. Come on, love. It’ll be over before you know it.”
“Fine,” I said, getting up. Nick grabbed my hand and pulled me up, purposely making me crash into him.
“Give me a half hour and I’ll be ready,” I said.
“Ok. See you in a few,” he said, brushing his lips against mine. He started to pull back, but I threw my arms around his neck and pulled him closer. Then I turned to grab my things and headed into the bathroom.
I quickly brushed my hair and threw it up into a ponytail. I wasn’t going to be seen by many people, so why look fantastic? Next I pulled on a pink tank top and a pair of jean shorts. I washed my face and put on some light make up. I checked myself in the mirror, and when I was satisfied, I walked out of the bathroom. Nick sat on the couch flipping through the TV channels. I walked over and sat beside him. He threw an arm around me and kissed my cheek.
“I think they’re waiting for us. We’re grabbing something to eat along the way,” Nick said. I got up and he followed, grabbing my hand from behind me. We walked off of the bus and came face to face with the rest of the Jonas family.
“Finally. And I thought I was slow,” Joe muttered.
“Hey, nobody told me I was going to participate in this interview,” I said.
“Everyone in the car. Let’s go,” Mr. Jonas directed. We all got into the large black SUV, my hand not letting go of Nick’s. I snuggled up against him when we both sat down.
“You tired?” he asked.
“Yes,” I responded. I put my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes. He wrapped an arm around me, his other hand still in mine.
It was times like this that I loved the most. When his skin touched mine, I still got goosebumps, even after 3 years. I dozed off to sleep, but was awoken earlier than I had wanted. Nick handed me a doughnut to eat, then he let me go back to sleep. But I only had 15 minutes to close my eyes. Nick woke me up again, this time because we had arrived.
Hand in hand, we walked to the studio, while being bombarded with questions. Cameras flashed from every direction. I kept a smile on my face and tried to look at some cameras directly. Whenever some one asked me a question, I simply said, “Sorry, I don’t have time now. Thank you!” When someone told me they loved me, I said I loved them too.
Finally Nick had led me into the studio where we were introduced to a lot of people. We took pictures and signed autographs for the workers and their families. Finally it was time to start the interview.
“We have here Miss Emma Taylor and the Jonas Brothers!” the main DJ said into the mic. The crew all clapped.
“How are you doing today?” the DJ asked.
“Great, thanks for having us,” I said. I slowly scooted my chair over next to Nick, where I searched for his hand and grabbed it. He gave me a quick squeeze.
After about a million questions, we took in some calls from the listeners.
“Were any of the songs on the album written about your current love life?” a girl had asked. Nick took the opportunity to answer this one.
“Yes, quite a few. Most of you all know about Emma and I, and yeah, some were about her.” I turned to see Nick blushing. He caught my eye and winked. “But the songs we write are about whatever we’re feeling. Maybe we’re crazy some days, and maybe we’re sad others. Anything can happen when we write a song.”
Finally the interview was over, and we were able to leave. Which was extremely difficult. The crowd had doubled over the past hour and a half. Big Rob cleared the way, and we all huddled close together to make sure no one got left behind. Of course we wanted to sign autographs, but there were just too many people.
“Wow,” Nick said when we got to the car.
“Yeah. Wow,” I said.
“So, what are we doing for the rest of the day, my dear?” Nick asked me.
“I really don’t care. Shopping sounds nice, though.”
“Then shopping it is. I think there’s an outlet mall not far from here. You want to check it out?”
“Sure,” I said.
And so in an hour we pulled into the parking lot of the outlet mall. I pulled my hat over my head and clung onto Nick’s hand, knowing he wouldn’t let me go. Luckily no one spotted us until after we were in the Nike Factory store. Nick requested that they not let anyone else in, but the people inside now could stay. At first the woman working there was confused, but after a second she recognized who we were. We gave her autographs, because she told us her daughters were huge fans.
“How about these?” I said, holding up a pair of multi-colored sneakers for Nick.
“Baby, I’m not going to lie, but you have no idea what shoes are cool for me,” Nick said. “I wear those, and my popularity will go down.”
“I’m just trying to help,” I said back. He smiled at me and threw an arm around me.
“And I’m glad,” he said. Then he leaned in to kiss me. Luckily we were at the back of the store, so people outside looking in wouldn’t see us. That was the last thing we needed- another picture of us kissing. It seemed as if they went for millions now.
I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket, but I didn’t care. I threw my arms around his neck and played with his curls. Nothing could interrupt a perfect moment when I was with Nick.
Chapter 2
The cashier handed us our change after we purchased our shoes from Nike. I bought a pair of running shoes and Nick bought a pair of Converse-looking shoes- except they weren’t real Converse. Nick was very proud of his purchase.
We both pulled our hats down and walked to the next store, which was Best Buy. We stayed hidden throughout the store, testing the video games. We appeared to be just another teenage couple.
Finally we had had our fun and went on to the next store. Which was a jewelry store. An expensive one, too. I started to walk past it, but Nick led me in.
“Anything for you,” he said. “Go ahead. Pick something.”
I tried not to look at anything too expensive. I didn’t want to sound too greedy. But then I saw it.
There it was- the perfect necklace. It was a silver chain with a small diamond heart hanging off of it. It wasn’t too shiny, but just enough to make it shimmer in the light. I caught myself staring at it.
“Emma!” I heard Nick call out to me. He turned to see me staring at the necklace. He came up beside me and slipped his hand in mine. “Um, excuse me?” he asked the lady behind the counter. “I’ll have that one,” he said, pointing to the necklace.
“No, it’s ok. I don’t need it,” I said.
“But you want it, Emma. So you’re getting it.”
“Nick, please.”
“Nope. Emma, you are going to have that necklace,” he said, pulling out his wallet. I decided not to argue much more. The lady put it carefully into a box and handed it to Nick. He handed her his credit card, and she returned it with a receipt. I managed to catch a glimpse of the price. $599.99. That exact amount.
“Here you go, my love,” he said. I turned around and he put the necklace on me.
“It’s beautiful,” I said as I looked down at it.
“Almost as beautiful as you,” he said, putting his arms around me. I turned around to face him.
“Thank you,” I said.
“Baby, I’d get anything to show how much I love you. Let’s get going,” he said, grabbing my hand. We walked out of the store, and Nick started pulling me to the car.
“Where are we going?” I asked.
“Home.”
“Wait...why?”
“You are the most forgetful person ever. You agreed to dinner last night, remember?” he said. I immediately remembered.
“Oh, I completely forgot! Come on, let’s go!” I. I dropped his hand and sprinted past him to his car.
“Oh no you don’t,” I heard him say behind me. Within seconds he had caught up to me, just as I reached the car. He threw his arms around me, picked me up, and spun me around.
Once again, my phone started vibrated. But just as it did, Nick leaned in to give me a kiss. And I wasn’t going to resist that. After a few seconds with his lips on mine, he pulled back.
We got into Nick’s car and headed home. It was around 4 when we reached the tour buses. There were tons of buses. One for Mr. and Mrs. Jonas and Frankie, one for Joe and Nick, and Kevin got his own. Then each member of the band paired up, plus all of the crew and anyone else. It must have looked like a RV convention whenever we drove down the road. I was lucky enough to have my own, but I hardly spent anytime in it. I just liked the fact that it was mine.
“Be ready by 5:30, I have 6:00 reservations,” Nick said as he helped me out of the car.
“You got reservations?” I asked.
“I wouldn’t be getting into this place without them,” he responded. I stopped for a moment, raised an eyebrow, and looked into Nick’s eyes.
“So how expensive will this be?” I asked.
“Baby, don’t even worry about it,” he said. He put his arms around me, stroking my hair, and rested his head on my shoulder. “I love you,” he whispered into my ear.
“I love you too,” I said back. He pulled back briefly, and then leaned in to push his lips against mine. I threw my arms around his neck and pulled him closer.
“Um, hate to interrupt, but...” someone said from behind me. I recognized the voice as Kevin’s. Nick pulled away, said something to Kevin, and kissed me once more.
“Be ready at 5:30. I’ll pick you up,” he said. With that, he winked and turned to follow Kevin.
I ran into my tour bus. I quickly showered and pulled on a navy blue dress with sparkles. I carefully put on my new necklace, then some light make-up. I noticed I had another half hour until Nick would show up to my bus, so I called Ashley, my best friend.
I pulled out my cell phone, and then pressed speed dial 3. Ashley picked up after the first ring.
“What’s up?” she asked playfully.
“Eh, not much. Nick’s taking me to dinner tonight. And he bought me the most amazing necklace today.”
I heard her sigh. “Why must you have the perfect boyfriend?”
“Come on, Ash, you know I’m looking for you.”
“I know, I know. So...how’s Joe?” she asked quietly, the shyness apparent in her voice. It was obvious she still cared for him, she just wouldn’t admit it. And Joe constantly asked me about her.
“He’s great.”
“And his girlfriend?”
“Is no more. They broke up a few days ago,” I said. Ashley was speechless. I could tell she was smiling.
“Well, that’s too bad,” she said sarcastically.
“Ash, you know you like him.”
“No, I don’t. He was a jerk to me. I’m so over him.”
“Sure you are.”
“Oh, have you gotten the call yet?” Ashley suddenly said.
“What call?” I responded. Was I supposed to be getting a call?
“About your tour! Your parents said you didn’t answer your phone.”
“I have a tour?” I asked excitedly. “Um, I’ll call you back later. Bye, Ash.”
“Ok, and make sure you answer your phone next time. Bye, Em.”
I quickly went to my voicemail where 2 new messages were. Both were from my parents.
“Emma, we have some great news! Call us back soon!”
“Em, you need to answer your phone. You’re going on tour again in 2 months, this time in Europe!”
I nearly stopped breathing. In Europe? I would be touring in Europe? I couldn’t believe it. And I couldn’t wait to tell Nick.
