The Watermelon Wars (A Nick One- Shot)

Hello. My name is Catherine Shell. I was just an average girl... really nothing special at all about me. I wasn't very attractive. Again, very average looking. But, I guess some people like that. Well, I have a very special story to tell you today. Let's start. It took place July 21th, 2008.

The Jonas Brothers were.... every girl's fairy-tale. No one knew anyone connected to them, and their fame was growing every second, so it was impossible to even start to communicate with them. Their fan emails... were fan emails! Let's face it, do we actually think they'll reply to those? Not with their chaotic (but dreamy) lives! So, I emailed them (a minimum of) 10 times a day. It was hard not to! So, I, Catherine Shell, was a very desperate OJD victim. No one tried to challenge that I was the most obsessed in my town, maybe even city. I even trademarked a Nick nickname. It was " Nicholashious (it's hot, hot)". Ok, well I trademarked about 3 more. They were "Nick Slickety Slick", "Nicholas Showboy", and "The Nickster". They weren't as creative as I'd like ,but people seemed to like them. Anyway, the summer of 2008 was the best I ever had. Especially that one fateful day in July...

It was July 21st. (2008.) Everyone was busy tanning, outside, eating watermelon. I was, too. I was at the beach with my friends that day. Eating watermelon. We loved watermelon, all of us (count 'em... 6 of us). I was not feeling in the miid to swim, so I just laid on my beach towel and relaxed. I had a sudden craving for ice cream. So, I grabbed my watermelon slice and walked up to the little snack shack on the beach. There were 3 other people there, all of them wearing sunglasses and hats. (I've been told I'm not the most observant person in the world, so please forgive me for being blind). I was waiting, and when my turn approached, being the klutz I am, I tripped, and flailed my arms around, throwing my watermelon slice backward, right into the head of one of the 3 guys who had been in front of me. "Ouch!" He yelped. I immediately got up, realizing I'd just made a fool of myself. I ran over to the 3 of them. "I'm so sorry!" I said to them. One of them, not the one who had been hit in the head, replied, "It's ok, my brother likes getting hit in the head with watermelon slices." The one who had been the victim of my little attack smirked. "Yeah, it's a new hobby of mine," he said. I blushed. "I'm so, so, so, sorry!" I said again. One of them smiled at me. "Well, don't worry about it." He looked a little thoughtful. "But I am suddenly craving watermelon," he added. I nodded, thinking it was a way to make it up to them. "Ok, there's some more by my friends." I started walking back to the sand. My beach towel was wrapped around me. "You like the Jonas Brothers?" the victim of my attack asked, noticing my Jonas Brothers beach towel. "Like? No, I'm in love with them," I blushed slightly. 2 of the 3 of them laughed. I could see the other one raise his eyebrow. "What?" I asked them. "Well..." one answered, while pulling me aside. "We can't show anyone else, they'd attack us, similarly to what you did to me with the watermelon," he added. I blushed. "But.." he said, looking at the others. "We'll help a fan," he said. Then, at the same instant, the 3 of them pulled of their hats and sunglasses.

"You're the- the-" I stuttered. "The Jonas Brothers," the replied in unison. "Oh. My. Nick. Jonas.," I said, completely unaware of what I was saying. Nick laughed. I blushed. His laugh was heavenly. "Do I have a camera?" I asked myself, out loud. "YES! I do!" I answered my own question. This time, they all laughed. "I'll be right back," I said, stumbling over the words. "We won't leave," Nick said, smiling. "Good!" I replied, running over to the sand. I grabbed my camera, avoided my friends' questions and ran back to where the Jonas Brothers stood. "I'm gonna need a picture," I told them matter-of-factly. "No problem," Joe replied. Kevin and Nick nodded. We took a picture together... then Kevin took one with me and Nick, alone. He put his arm on my shoulder. "Oh, I forgot! Do you still want watermelon?" I asked Kevin. "Sure," he said, looking at the 2 others, mischievously. I decided to make nothing of it and walked back to my friends. "What are you doing?" Katie asked me. "Nothing! Eating my ice cream over there!" I told them. They shrugged as I grabbed 7 slices of watermelon. I ran back to the 3 brothers. "Ok, here's some watermelon. "Ok, what's your name? I didn't catch it," Nick asked me politely. I blushed, "Catherine." "Well, Catherine, you and Nick are on one time and me and Kevin are on the other," Joe told me. "What?" I asked, confused. "Watermelon war," Nick said, starting to smile. I almost melted. "Ok," I said, automatically. "Let the wars begin," Kevin said. He threw a slice at me. It hurt a little. I aimed for him, but instead, it went for Joe. Fair enough. It went on like that for a while. Joe threw one at me and I fell into Nick. He grabbed me. I blushed. He just smiled that sweet smile of his. "I love you," I whispered to him, so Joe and Kevin couldn't hear me. "I love you, too," He whispered back, much to my surprise.

After the watermelon war, Nick and I exchanged numbers. We had a nice, long, relationship. But that, my friend, is another story.
