I have no idea how I came up with this, but whether you read it or not, I'm writing this.
Enjoy, and thank you.
S.O.S.
It’s clichéd and overused, but perhaps some of the best romances ever written. It’s the “best friend turned soul mate story,” and while they all end up happily and typically share the same plots, it’s the bond that you form with the characters while reading the story that sets some apart.
This may or may not catch your interest. If you’re into extremely cheesy, often pointless plots and nonsensical reasoning this is probably your type of fiction. If you want well-worded, deep and thought-provoking you may want to look somewhere else.
As most stories do, this one begins with a girl. We don’t know her name at the beginning, but we shortly find out that it’s Lauren, Ren for short. Her green eyes are glued to a novel, the words aided by her imagination creating a world she adores, one that she wishes she could live in.
She’s interrupted by a loud chuckle from across the room, and she rolls her eyes when she sees her three best friends playing video games. On closer inspection only two are playing and one is cheering them both on, changing her cheers for whoever is in the lead at that given moment. It’s an intense game, and the plastic guitars provided for the game are getting quite the workout as the two battle each other.
Once the game is finished the two collapse on the sofa next to the cheering girl with a sigh. It ended in a near tie, the male player winning by just a smidge. The girl would demand a rematch, but she knows the outcome would be the same.
Ren returns to her book, trying to return to where she’d left off. She gets about a sentence in before she’s interrupted by the curly haired boy who just won the video game. He says nothing, just hovers over her for a few moments before her eyes snap to his hazel ones in irritation.
“What Kevin?” she snaps, putting her book aside. She should know better than to think she would be able to read with him, Ashley, and Melissa spending the day at her house.
Kevin smiles, used to her random flares of temper. He jokes that it’s because of all the red hair she has, but he really figures it’s the stress and odd situations she often lands in that does it. A single curl falls between his eyebrows, and he pushes it away with his hand.
“Let’s do something fun.” He says, plopping down on the loveseat next to her. He puts his arm around her in a friendly manner and Ashley and Melissa’s heads pop up excitedly at the thought of having an adventure.
“I was before you interrupted me.” Ren said, no longer angry but not wanting to give in too easy.
“You read too much,” he replied. “Let’s go to the beach or something.”
“Ooh! The beach!” Ashley says excitedly, anticipation written all over her face.
“Yeah, let’s go!” Melissa agreed, the urge to swim running through her veins.
“But guys I—“
“We’re going to the beach!” Ashley interrupted, her face determined.
Ren just shook her head, knowing that she couldn’t get out of this beach trip even if she tried. “You need help, the lot of you.” She said before leaving the living room to pack her things.
To the beach she’d go…but that didn’t mean she would like it.
So the story begins, and you know where it’s headed. The lines between friends and lovers are not yet blurred, but you get the feeling that there’s something bubbling beneath the surface. Or maybe you’re just telling yourself that while you wait for more.
Either way, something is going to happen.
