Chapter One;
“Oh, look! It’s them!!”
Joe forced a smile onto his face as he walked past the third group of girls since he’d left his cabin, along with his old brother Kevin, and younger brother Nick. The three of them walked along the path that ran directly in the middle of the camp, each with a smile of their own plastered on their own. Joe was tired from the flight from New York and instead of sleeping, the other two boys insisted of going for a walk so people would start getting used to the A-list guests at the camp.
‘The camp’ was Camp Logwood. It was situated just out of LA; about 10 minutes walk through a forest that leads to a beautiful isolated beach that gave the campers exclusive use of. Logwood was a camp for young performers; actors, singers, dancers, musicians. It was almost like a school, as it had schedules for certain activities, or classes, that were run by teachers trained to further the skills of the young people attending, which were between the ages of 13 and 21. There were voice coaches, dance instructors, all sorts of musicians, such as violinists and guitarists…
As well as the performing arts aspect of the camp, there was always a dance studio, a gym, a swimming pool, various tennis courts, and a lake that was okay for swimming, although most preferred going down to the beach any chance they could. There was a large dining hall, and a building of dorms and cabins, all with ensuites. The dorms were more expensive, and being A-list rock stars, the record company paid for the best three single rooms in the whole camp.
Each dorm had a phone and internet connection, as well as beautiful views, the brochure boasted. Those who chose to stay in the airy cabins, or couldn’t afford a dorm room, which was about $70 dearer, had to use the phone and computers in one of the three rec rooms.
At the end of the 3 month camp, there was a talent show, and the winner would receive $20,000 to help them to help them with any further goals of being famous or getting into different performing and prestige schools around the country. The talent show would be held in the large theatre that showed off the camp’s success, with the walls covered with framed photos of various performers who had had success after attending the camp. There was always one student or camper that was foreign and the rumor of the moment was that it was a female from Australia.
After two or so years touring, Joe and his brothers… well more the record company and his parents more than anything, had decided that to be able to keep doing what they were doing, they should go back and get some professional training and further develop their skills as singers, musicians, songwriters and performers.
Joe knew he was in for a long three months. He just hoped that somehow he’d enjoy it.
