Chapter 2
Melissa’s Point of View
I walked up the stairs towards my apartment, balancing a few brown paper grocery bags in my arms as well as my purse that was dangling off my arm, hitting the railings as it swung back and forth. I reached the door on the third floor and stumbled with my keys as I struggled to open the door. After a gazillion tries, the key finally fit in the lock and I opened the door.
I immediately headed to the kitchen, where I dropped all the bags with a sigh, and threw my purse on a counter. “Ash! I’m home!” I screamed through the house. Ashley was my best friend and my roommate for 2 years now. We both went to the same university, which is where we met and immediately connected. I was 4 years older then Ashley, but that didn’t change anything. We would do everything together, and we had such a tight bond that no one could break, not even a guy. We were inseparable.
I waited to get an answer from Ashley, but nothing came. That was just a little curious to me. That usually meant that something was wrong. I walked out of the kitchen and towards her bedroom door, where I knew she was, but before I reached her room the phone rang. I quickly ran over and grabbed it.
“Hello?”
“Hey baby girl. How was your day?”
“Good… but it’s much better now.” I twirled a strand of hair and fell back on the couch in the living room. Just talking to him always showed a different side of me. He chuckled, and I felt like sparks erupted inside of me. “What about you?”
“Oh, you know… same old, same old. It’s all press coverage, photo shoots, and radio interviews. Sometimes I wish I could get a break from it all.”
“But you love doing all that stuff!”
“Yeah, but not as much as I love being around you.”
“Awww….” I cooed. “Do you know how corny that was?”
“Yeah, I know, but it doesn’t mean it’s not true.”
I talked to him for… I don’t how long exactly, but it was quite a long time, about everything and about nothing, before he said that he had to leave for a concert.
“Oh okk… bye Kevy.”
“I hate it when you call me that,” he said, but I knew he was smiling all the same.
“I know! Promise you’ll call me tomorrow?”
“Promise. Gotta go, love you.”
“Love you too.”
I hung up and sighed, placing the phone beside me on the table. Yes, I was dating the Kevin Jonas, a famous rock star. It still seemed like a dream to me, but I guess it was just faith. You see, little over a year ago, Ashley introduced me to three boys: Nick, Kevin and Joe. Immediately, Kevin and I clicked. There was just this amazing, undeniable chemistry between us. Today, we've been dating for approximately almost a year. It’s hard with him being on tour and all, but we manage. Mostly because I know he loves me. Even though he has tons of screaming girls yelling his name everyday, I always remember that I’m his baby girl, the one he calls everyday, the one who makes him smile, and the one that captures his heart. He tells me so everyday.
I looked up at the clock. 4… 4 o-clock? I suddenly jumped up and ran to the kitchen. I had completely forgotten about all the groceries left on the pantry. I hurriedly put it all away, especially the stuff that needed to go in the fridge, before I collapsed back on the couch, only to jump back up a few seconds afterwards when I remembered something else I had forgotten about: Ashley.
I walked over to her room and knocked on the door. “Hey Ash, can I come in?” I heard a bit of shuffling into the room followed by a muffled, “Yeah, come in.”
I opened the door and found Ashley sitting on her bed, clutching that Forever necklace for dear life, with tearstains shining on her cheeks and chocolate bar wrappings littering her bed. I immediately rushed to her side and pulled her in a hug. She chocked on a sob as I rubbed her back comfortingly. “It’s okay Ash. Don’t cry. He’s not worth it.”
My comforting words didn’t seem to help since more tears started rolling down her cheeks. I pulled away and kept a strong grasp on her shoulders, looking at her straight in the eyes. “Ash, look, there are plenty more guys out there in the world. You’re an amazing girl that many guys would kill for. One day, he’ll realize that he made a mistake and missed out. It’s his loss.”
Ashley just nodded as she chocked on another sob. I wiped the tears from her eyes. “Come on. Let’s go eat a gallon of Ice Cream and watch a bunch of chick flicks. That’ll make you feel better.” I grabbed her hand and pulled her out of her room, against her will, but it was for her own good.
