Chapter 8
~When She Loved Me~
Then next morning Joe woke up and looked at the clock, it was 8:15, he had 45 minutes to get dressed and get across town to stop his wife from divorcing him.
He quickly got dressed and ran out the door and hopped in his car. At 9:00 he was getting out of his car and running into the building of the law office and at 9:02 he was staring, out of breath, at his wife.
“You’re late” she said shaking her head. “Babe, don’t do this! We love each other…we belong together! Think about all the good times that we’ve had” he said walking over to her and holding her face in his hands. There were tears falling from her eyes and he wrapped his arms around her. “Babe, I love you…please don’t divorce me” he said looking into her eyes.
“It’s too late for that” Becky’s lawyer said matter-of-factly. “What?” Joe asked looking confused “In the future you may want to be on time Mr. Jonas, you have been divorced for about five minutes now. And since you weren’t here everything goes to your ex-wife.”
“Becky…” Joe started “I’m sorry…” she said and ran from the room tears falling quite freely now.
Two hearts, joined as one now separated. Still clinging to each other for warmth and affection.
Everything was simpler, Joe thought, when she loved me.
