Rachel and I were about to head back to the hotel when a dark haired guy walked up to us smiling.
"Hello." He said politely. "My name is Joe and I am speaking to you on behalf of my younger brother Nick. He's the curly haired one over there being held back by the other curly haired one. Since he is a spineless jellyfish I must come over here and talk to you for him. I would like to know what your name is, how old you are and if your single or not?" He said pointing toward me. Rachel was laughing hysterically by this point.
"Ummm…I'm Kinsly, I'm 15 and single." I answered watching my giggling friend. "That's Rachel."
"Hi Rachel." Joe waved to my friend. "Here is my brother's number." He said scribbling something down on a napkin. He handed it to me and I looked at it for a second. "Would you mind giving me yours?" I was hesitant.
"I will!" Rachel spoke up and gave him my cell number.
"Thank you ladies." He said tipping an invisible hat before walking away.
"That was weird." I commented. "But he is cute!"
"Mhm!" Rachel nodded. "Let's go back to the hotel."
"Alright." I agreed. I saw Nick watching me as we walked away. I sent him a wink before focusing my attention back on Rachel.
"So are you going to introduce him to your parents?" She laughed.
"My dad and step mother yes." I coughed. "Not my mother."
"Oh why not?" She asked sarcastically.
"I'm afraid her fake boobs might scare him away." I looked at her horrified.
"They almost did me." She nodded and I gave her the same look. "I'm joking! Calm down." Rachel and I made it back to the hotel in one piece. We really didn’t expect my mother to be there yet. And she wasn’t. My dad and step-mother, Jessica, were though.
“Hey girls.” Dad smiled at us as we walked into his hotel room. “What were you two up to?”
“We got ice-cream.” Rachel smiled. “And got some phone numbers.”
“Ooh!” Jessica cooed. “Cute boys.” “No.” I said shaking my head solemnly. “.” Rachel laughed and reassured them I was just joking.
“Really cute boys.” Rachel smiled pushing me softly.
“The cutest!” I burst out falling next to Jessica on the couch. I loved her. She was just like my mother but she knew when too much was too much.
“Mhm.” My dad said eyeing us skeptically. “I want to meet these boys.” He has always been as protective as Rachel as he has of me. Rachel and I have known each other since we were toddlers playing in the sandbox in the park. Dad even once said that it was a strange twist of fate we didn’t end up sisters when we act just like it.
“If we call them.” I reassured him.
“No,” Rachel said. “They’ll call us. Just you wait and see!” I really hoped she was right. I needed a distraction from my mothers antics. Maybe Nick would be the perfect one.
‘Things are shaping up to be pretty odd. My phone went off in my pocket. I answered it hesitantly; sure it was my mother telling me not to wait up whilst she gallivants around the city.
“At least you had the decency to call.” I answered bitterly.
“You’re welcome?” A confused boy asked on the other line. My face flushed and my eyes went wide. Crap.
“I’m sorry!” I shouted. “I thought it was someone else!...Who is this?”
“It’s Nick, from the boardwalk. You talked to my insane brother.”
“Oh right.” I said embarrassed. “What’s up?”
“Not much.” He laughed. “I’m really bad at this kind of thing so I’m just going to say it: will you go out with me tomorrow night?”
“Uh…” I said glancing at my dad.
“Please, I really like you.” Haha! He thought I was going to say no.
“I would love to, but you have to meet my dad first.” I bit my lip waiting for his response.
“Wonderful!” I can’t wait. How’s seven o’clock?”
“Sounds good. I’m staying in the 4 seasons room 672.”
“Great, see you then!” We hung up and I turned to Rachel. She already seemed to know everything that was said and could barely contain herself.
“Kinsly has a date! Kinsly has a date!” She mocked like a five year old. I rolled my eyes at and smiled at my crazy ass friend. “I told you so!”
“You know your mother is going to want to meet him too.” My father told me killing my mood. I groaned loudly falling sideways on the couch.
“So much for Nick.” I sighed letting my phone drop to the beige carpeted floor.
