"Come on you pansy call her!" I yelled silently to myself staring at my cell phone. Joe let out a small laugh but doesn’t bother looking up from the magazine he's reading. Kevin just sat there shaking his head and smirking at me.
"It might help if you actually dial her number." He stifled a laugh. I glared at him. Shaking I pounded the numbers on the phone. I wanted to hang up but my hand didn't seem to have any life in it anymore. Stupid hand. Has to die when I need it most.
"At least you had the decency to call." A girl snapped in my ear as she picked up the phone.
"You’re welcome?" I asked hesitantly. Obvious confusion in my voice.
"I'm sorry!" She shouted and I had to move the phone away from my ear. "I thought you were someone else!" Then there was a pause. "Who is this?"
“It’s Nick, from the boardwalk. You talked to my insane brother.” I told her glancing toward said brother who was glaring at me.
"Oh right." She said. I could tell that she was embarrassed and it made my nerves go down. "What's up?"
"Not much." I laughed. Then my brain began to panic. “I’m really bad at this kind of thing so I’m just going to say it: will you go out with me tomorrow night?”
"Uh…" She said hesitantly. She was going to say no. I just knew it.
“Please, I really like you.” Idiot! Why'd I have to go and say that? Now I sound needy!
“I would love to, but you have to meet my dad first.” A smile spread across my face. She said yes! Eat that Joseph!
“Wonderful! I can’t wait. How’s seven o’clock?” Slow it down spaz. She said yes. Calm down.
“Sounds good. I’m staying in the 4 seasons room 672.” She told me. I took the mental note knowing I probably would never forget it.
"Great, see you then!" We hung up and I was practically pounced on by Joe.
"Nicky has a date! Nicky has a date!" He sang dancing around our hotel room. Kevin shook his head at Joe.
"Too bad he had to beg." He smirked glancing at me. I faked a laugh and smacked him on the back of the head.
"You wanna go little man?" He asked threateningly standing up from his chair. A small smile spread across his face.
"Maybe I do." I taunted stepping up to him. He might have been taller, but I could take him.
"Maybe we should go then." He said looking down at me. "To get some food. I'm hungry." I co.cked an eyebrow at him. Joe perked up at the mention of food and followed Kevin quickly out the door. I stood in the middle of the hotel room staring at the wall. Then I looked up to the ceiling and positioned my hands over my chest in the praying position.
"Please, please give me a sign that I was adopted." I asked politely. After several seconds nothing happened, I gave up muttering "Dang."
