Sean and I ran hand-in-hand down the long allyways of Old Town to the bus stop.
When it got there, we climbed in and sat down.
"Sean, California?" I whispered.
"Yeah, Grace. Los Angeles." He whispered back.
"Where will we live?" I asked. He put his arm around me and kissed my forehead, but remained silent. "Sean?"
"...I don't know." He looked like he was about to cry.
About two hours later we arrived in Denver, Colorado where we got on our train.
We were in the lowest class, sitting in little rooms.
"Do you have everything you need?" He asked me. I looked in my bag. Wallet... picture... clothes...
"Yep." I said, leaning my head against the window. My skin felt warm under my black "Green Day" tshirt.
I guess I should introduce myself now that we're on the train.
I'm Grace, and as you can tell, my brother and I are running away. I'm 15, Sean's 17, and we both have long brown hair and brown eyes. I was a huge fan of Green Day, Paramore, My Chemical Romance, and Panic! at the Disco. People called me "emo" because I always wore black clothing and rarely ever smiled.
They don't even know what made me that way. My father thought my mother and her children weren't good enough, so he left us for some other woman. Then, enter Brian. My mother's new boyfriend. Let's just say after two moths, bruises started appearing on Sean and I's porcilein-colored skin. A dark purple blemish on silky white.
Now, Sean and I are going to rebuild our lives together... somehow.
My friend, Hayley, was not like me at all. She was a hipster; shopped at trendy stores for things like... Vintage clothing and such. The walls of her room were red, though you couldn't see it because it was covered in poster of the Jonas Brothers. She had this obbsession with them. I didn't find them interesting at all. I even thought their music sucked.
I looked out the train window three hours later, the climate burningly sunny.
Good thing this stupid train is air conditioned.
"Ok, Grace. We're almost there," Sean said. "We have to remember Mom might call the police. Even though she is deep into her work, I think she still cares abot us."
I scoffed, and he glared at me then regained his thoughts.
"Anyway, we have to lay low. Don't tell anyone your real name," he said.
"What should my name be?" I asked.
"Hmm. I don't know. What do you think?"
"I don't know, stupid. You pick."
"Ok, since your name is Grace, how about Hope?"
"That's cheesy."
"Take it or think of one yourself."
I sighed. "Ok, fine. Let me think of one for you."
I thought of the movies I had seen with Hayley the past few days.
"William!" I squealed.
"What?"
"William, like the guy who plays Peter in Narinia." I said. Usually I don't like fantasies, but I thought that movie was cool.
"Ok, sure. Will for short," he said. I nodded, and the train lurched to a full stop.
"Welcome to our new life," Sean said, getting up.
