Captured Heart
Prologue:
Julia’s POV
“Daddy No!!” I screamed at him. I cant believe he’s making me do this.
“Yes! You are to go with your brothers and sisters! They are going on a trip and it’s good for you! Plus you are always getting in trouble and danger around here and I can’t watch after you sweetie. Your brothers and sisters will.” He repeated for the tenth time in the past five minutes.
“But Daddy I want to stay here!! I have friends here and you! I can’t just leave everything I love! Plus…I don’t get into trouble or danger. I just like adventure. But I never go overboard.” I argued. He never understands.
“ Oh you don’t huh? How about that time you and Jessie almost got hurt by that shark huh? You know you weren’t supposed to go in that area yet you did. I call that danger…and trouble!” He reminded me. Now that…was adventure!
Let me fill you in. Hi, my name is Julia. I’m a…mermaid. Yeah I know, you re probably saying ‘there is no such thing as mermaids’ but there is. I’m living proof. I love adventuring. Jesse, my friend, and I are always finding new places to see. Of course, they are out of boundaries but we usually don’t get caught. That is…she doesn’t. I do. So now my daddy is trying to send me away.
“If you don’t want me here though then fine! I’m leaving!” I yelled for the last time!
“So you will go with them?” My dad smiled.
“No!” I whispered and swam away. I swam to my room and grabbed a couple of little things. Then I swam away from where I live. I didn’t know where I was going or which direction I was heading, I just had to get away…forever.
I looked back one last time to see the place I grew up. I was going to miss it. But I will find something new! I started swimming again. Open water. I couldn’t tell where I was going. I kept swimming and swimming for hours. I thought I couldn’t swim anymore when I noticed that the depth of the ocean was decreasing the more I continued. That most mean I was near a shore. I surfaced to see that it was pitch black. It must be late. Then I saw a shore that was about a quarter a mile ahead. I smiled and then kept swimming, heading for shore. Once I got there I was so tired that I didn’t even think. I just lay there and fell asleep…
*Next Morning*
“I can’t believe it”
“A mermaid!”
“Are you sure it’s not some kind of Joke?”
“This is amazing!”
“Do you think she’s ok?”
I woke up to a bright sun and water washing over me…and four faces peering down at me. I shrieked and sat up.
“Whoa! She’s definitely alive” a dark brown curly headed boy stated as they all backed off a little. He had hazel eyes and appeared to be around 20 years old.
“You think?” Another boy said. He had dark brown hair and brown eyes also but his hair was straight. He appeared to be around 18.
“You’re a mer-mermaid!” A girl stuttered. She had blonde hair that went down to her shoulders and it also had a slightly wavy. She also had these blue-green eyes that sparkled in the bright sun and she looked to be about 19.
“Ignore them! Are you ok?” The other girl asked. She had brown curly hair that fell to her mid back and bright green eyes that were filled with curiosity and kindness.
“I…I..umm” I stuttered. Humans. Humans were talking to me. What was I doing on shore? I can’t believe I fell asleep!!
“Oh sorry we should introduce ourselves.” The last girl said. “Hi I’m Jamie!”
“I’m Erin!”
“Hi…I’m Kevin and this is Joe”
“Ugh…I’m…Julia?” What was I getting myself into?
