Chapter Three
Jamie’s POV
Dead fish. That’s what the bucket was full of next to me, as I floated in a canoe in the dolphin tank. I work at a marine animal conservatory, and one of my jobs was feeding the dolphins. Don’t get me wrong, I love it here because of all the animals and the fact that he save many animals, but the dead fish do happen to be a drawback to my job. I rubbed my favorite dolphin affectionately, who happened to be named Jade, an expecting mother. As I tossed a fish into her mouth, I heard my phone ring. I picked it up, holding it in place with my shoulder and I paddled back to the exit. I heard mixed and excited yet scared screaming, which just about blew out my eardrum. Wincing, I raised my voice above the 2 on the other line. “WHAT?!?’ Silence, then rough and heavy breathing. “Julia...Julia…she…she…” Erin stammered over the phone. “Julia…what?” Erin quickly explained the whole story, my jaw falling further and further. “So, you took her necklace off, and she turned into a human?” I yelled practically on the top of my voice. A family of guests, gave me a strange look and skipped by the dolphin exhibit, even as the little girl screamed “I WANT TO SEE THE DOLPHINS MOMMY!!!” I think them passing might have had something to do with my outburst. Oops. Shrugging it off, I quickly said, “My shift is over in 5. I’ll be home soon.” and hung up. Trying not to let the spinning of my head (which I assumed had something to do with my strange day,) keep me from falling out of the canoe, I climbed onto the exit platform, taking a last look at the dolphins as I went to go change.
I ran up to the house, slamming my car door shut. Not one, but 2, very human girls ran up to meet me. One of them, Erin, with her familiar shoulder-length blonde hair, and sparkling blue-green eyes. But another girl, who I had only seen with a tail stood next to her, walking unsteadily. She had straight sandy blonde hair and her eyes were the color of the ocean. My jaw dropped. She was indeed, very human, even if she was an awkward one. “How the heck do you guys work these things??” Julia shook her legs and stared at them as if they were some alien things. Well, for her, I guess they were. This would take some figuring out.
