Chapter 3.
Broken
Chapter 3
I got home from school about fifteen minutes before I was supposed to be picked up. I ran upstairs and grabbed my bag, making sure everything was packed for the weekend. I put both my school bag and my duffel by the door, grabbed my notebook, a cup of water, and sat at the table silence surrounding me. I was startled out of my silence when a loud knock on the door. I sent a nervous glance at the clock – it was 3:15 on the dot. Reluctantly I opened the door and was greeted by three faces that graced a small portion of my bedroom walls.
“Alexia?” the curly haired teen asked nervously.
“Yep, that’s me. Let me just grab my stuff.” I said disappearing into the other room to get my bags.
After double checking that I had everything, I followed, Nick, Joe, and Kevin down the driveway towards the limo. Nick and Joe grabbed my bags and I kept my purse and some homework with me as Kevin opened my door for me. I looked up and gave him a small smile before sliding in. Kevin and Joe slid in across from me, leaving Nick next to me.
“I’m Kevin,” Kevin said shaking my hand.
“I’m Nick,” “And I’m Danger,” laughter erupted as Joe reached for my hand. “No, really, I’m Joe.” He said smiling.
“So Alexia…” Kevin started.
“Please, please call me Lexi.” I interrupted wincing at the use of my real name.
All three nodded at me as we began passing through my small town. We lapsed off into silence, allowing me to consider actually doing some homework. Reluctantly I pulled my geometry book out and began trying to find angles and lines and measurements.
“What are you doing?” Nick asked
I glanced up, startled out of my concentration. “Oh, just angles and measurements. Geometry stuff.” I made a face. “I can’t stand this stuff.”
Nick chuckled a little bit and glanced at the book on my lap. “Music is definitely easier,” he said motioning at my homework.
“That I agree with,” I responded with a smile.
“Want some help? Kevin asked, seeing what Nick and I had been discussing.
I nodded and we tackled my geometry homework as a group. Between the four of us, it got done much faster and there was a split second of silence.
“So Lexi…what do you like to do?” Joe asked me carefully.
“Reading sometimes, writing poetry and lyrics…singing,” I replied quickly
The three of them exchanged a smile at my response.
“Do you play any instruments?” Kevin inquired
I shook my head. “Sadly, no. I really want to learn to play the guitar or the piano though.”
“We might be able to help with that.” Nick answered making me blush.
We lapsed into silence as I stared out the window watching the snowy scenery fly by. I don’t know how long I sat like that but after awhile Nick put a hand on my shoulder making me flinch. I eyed all three of them nervously but they didn’t seem to have noticed. Our conversation soon turned back to music.
“What’s your favorite song?” Kevin asked
“Of ours!” Joe exclaimed as I began to think.
Nick, Kevin, and I laughed at Joe’s quick addition.
“That’s tough. Off of the first CD I loved 7:05 and Six Minutes. The new one…wow, S.O.S, Hold On, That’s Just the Way We Roll, and Inseparable,” I replied
We soon got into a long winded conversation about why certain songs were written and what they were about.
“So what’s the story behind S.O.S., Nick?” I questioned
“Basically just this girl who came to hang out and it turned out pretty bad. I wrote it pretty much in fifteen minutes. It was just easier to get my feelings out through music,” Nick answered back
“See this is why I wish I had some instrumental talent. Or had at least been able to take lessons,” I retorted thunking my head against the window once before cracking up at the looks on their faces.
“What about your song, Lexi? Why’d you write it?” Joe asked recovering my head thunking antics.
“I was looking through old pictures and instantly thought of how much I’d want to go back and change certain moments of my life.” I responded softly, knowing full well that wasn’t the complete answer to the question.
The boys didn’t press me but I caught them exchanging a private look. I shrugged it off and shifted in my seat so that I was staring out the window again, lost in thought. I didn’t even notice that we pulled into a large development and began making our way towards the Jonas residence. I was jolted from the thoughts that had been filtering in and out of my mind all day as the limo stopped in the driveway.
