Chapter 1
Who said life was fair?
*Lori's POV*
Geez its freezing here! But I guess my dad really likes it here. See, my
dad never wants to go anywhere for vacation. Actually he never wants to
go anywhere period! He prefers staying at his office while I get
homeschooled by some stupid teacher on-the-go! My mom is in Cancun right
now living it up, oh no, here exact words were "trying to forget the
grieving pain" that apparently came from the divorce. Puh-lease! This
divorce had been a long time coming! I knew it, my parents knew it, heck
our maids knew it! Its just how life is I guess. Well this trip was
called on by my dad who said he loved this place when he was a kid.
Apparently my dad was always a rich money loving jerkwad. This place is
a huge resort in some forsaken mountain in the middle of winterland or
something! Seriously, its summertime and I'm freezing my butt off! So
yeah, its a huge resort for the rich and snotty. Hopefully I only fill
in the rich part. Everyone else here is either an A-list celebrity or
own huge company's like my dad. Yeah, my dad's loaded. But it's not as
cool as you would think. My dad hardly has time for me. I'm just another
one of his trophy children. Just like my brother who's at Stanford
because he's a big pushover. Wait, why am I complaining? No on ever said
life was fair.
"Sweetie, I'm going skiing for awhile, go have fun and we'll meet back
here for dinner. Lets say...nine-ish? Have fun!" My dad leaves without
another word. I'm in the very elegant lobby of the resort. I always like
to just sit here and see which other old celebrity will show up.
Seriously, there is never anyone my age. Its just me, myself, and Earl
the doorman. He's like the only cool person here. And since we're gonna
be here for another month(yes month! We've been here for a week and my
dad has decided he wants to stay longer!) he's probably the only friend
I'll be able to talk to.
"Hey Earl what's shakin'?" I say to him.
"Well Miss Galdore I am just opening the door here for exciting new
guests!" he replys with sarcasm. The best kind of comedy. I smile at
him, which rarely happens becuase I never smile anymore.
"Wow! Sounds like uber fun! How did you get the coolest job?" I reply
with extra sarcasm just for him.
"Well Miss Galdore, I guess its just pure luck! Who wouldn't want to see
Brad Pitt pick his nose on the way to the front desk? That's one of the
big perks of being a doorman I guess." He grins and laughs with me.
Seriously, if it wasn't for Earl, I would probably already had gone
insane.
"Earl! I already told you! Call me Lori."
"Sorry Miss Galdore but I am not worthy to be on first name bases with
such a pretty young lady such as yourself." He winks at me and laughs.
Of course I laugh with him. 'Pretty little lady'? More like 'annoying
little rich kid' which is what most of my past tutors have called me.
"Earl please! Your make me feel like a..like a...ugh like a snotty
celebrity!"
"No Miss Lori! Never! You are truly a one of a kind person."
"Aww thanks Earl. You're not so bad yourself." We laugh until we hear a
bus pull up. Its huge and black with large letters saying 'Jonas
Brothers'. Don't know don't care.
"Well I guess I'll leave you to your job good sir." I say with one last
grin to Earl. I hope these aren't some snotty musicians with no manners.
I've seen too many of those here. I walk over to my usual spot at the
huge couch in the lobby. I start to hear people coming in through the
door but before I turn around I'm startled by a little boy. The most
adorable little boy ever!
"Hi I'm Frankie! Wanna play with my new ninja's? Please!" He says. How
could I resist.
"Of course little man! I love ninjas! They are the coolest butt-kicking
warriors I know!" He hands me an action fingure and begins to fight me
with his. This is actually...fun! He giggles at my ninja noises and
decides to rest and sit next to me.
"So little man, are you a bachelor or do you have a family of your own?"
I say and he actually gets the joke and laughs!
"I'm with my family! We're actaully taking a vacation from my brothers'
touring."
"So your brothers are musicians huh? Well Frankie my man, you just
became my best friend. I've been alone here becuase there are no other
kids to play with! Can you believe it?"
"No! No other kids? I don't mind. I'm used to playing just with my
family. But yeah! I wanna be your best friend!" He smiles and hugs me.
"Awww thinks little man. You just made my day." He really did.
"Frankie! Tank where are you dude?" I hear voices from behind me.
Frankie refuses to let go of me and I let him stay. Who wouldn't?
"Over here!" I yell out. I see three boys coming up to me. They look
alike but so different at the same time. There one with curly hair, one
with side burns, and one with straight hair. Wow did I just describe
someones hair? I'm pathetic.
"Hi I'm Lori. You must be this little man's brothers." I say. Frankie
still doesn't let go but I don't mind.
"My names Joe, and that's Kevin and Nick. And yes actually that is our
little Tank. He's obviously very taken with you." Says the middle one
and smiles.
"Yeah sorry if he bothered you." Says the youngest looking one named
Nick. These boys seem...different somehow. Not like the rest of the
losers who come here.
"Bothered me? Are you kidding? This kid just became my best friend!
Right little man?" I say to Frank.
"Right! I don't wanna leave my best friend!" He says.
"Franklin! We need to get settled in our rooms!" says Kevin..I
think...he's the one with the side burns right?
"Frankie, don't worry I'll still be here when your done. Here's my room
number and cell number. Call me later and we can have some awesome fun
at the arcade. Deal little man?" I say to Frankie. He looks at me with
sad eyes but knows what he has to do.
"Ok...but only because I have to not because I want to." He gives me one
last hug and runs to his parents.
"How did you guys get the coolest little brother ever?" I say to the
boys.
"Who knows? I guess we're just cursed." Says Joe...I think.
"He's just kidding. We are lucky to have him. Especially when its just
us most of the time." Says Nick...I'm sure.
"So you guys are in a band? I listen mostly to classic rock so don't be
offended if I don't reconize your band." I say earnestly. I really am
not into any new bands at all.
"No of course not! We're the Jonas Brothers. We like to listen to rock
too. Like the Beatles?" asks Nick.
"Yes! Haha who doesn't like the Beatles!?" we all laugh and then I hear
a womens voice. It must be their mom. That must be nice.
"Well we hate to leave but we can hang out later." Says Joe looking at
me straight in the eyes. He has amazing choclate eyes. Seriously!
"Sure. As long as you bring my best buddy." I say and wink at Frankie
who passes by with his mom. She waves at me and I just wave back. She
must be a nice mother.
"Deal. Your probably gonna turn out to be the only other person our age
here."
"Correction. I AM the only other teenager here." I say and they just
laugh. They probably think I'm joking. Wait till they see I'm not.
"See you guys later then." I leave and go over to Earl. Whenevr I have
nothing to do he has the best stories about magical cave dwelings here
at the resprts mountains. Storytime!
