Chapter 6
Nick and I were in line at Starbucks. I smelled the strong smell of coffee and chocolate. I slightly remembered going there before but I had no idea what I liked.
“I’ll order for us, you can go sit down.” Nick offered politely.
“Okay.” I said.
“Alright. What do you want?” Nick asked me. I looked at the menu. “Um, surprise me.” I said smiling. I went and sat down at a table with two chairs.
A few minutes later Nick came over to the table carrying our drinks. He sat down and then handed me the drink he chose for me.
“A green tea frappuccino for me, and a strawberries and cream one for you.” He smiled.
“Thank you.” I said taking a sip of the cold, pink drink. I closed my eyes. This was familiar, and very good.
“Tired?” Nick chuckled. I opened my eyes feeling kind of embarrassed.
“Oh, um, no.” I said not quite knowing what to say. I didn’t really want him to know that I had amnesia. It’s not the kind of thing you would want to talk about.
“So, tell me about yourself.” Nick asked smiling at me. Oh crap. I didn’t really have much to say considering I didn’t really know much.
“Well,” I thought for a second. “I have two sisters and I’m from Pennsylvania.” I couldn’t think of anything else.
“Is that all?” he smiled. I just shrugged my shoulders. “Well, what do you like to do?” I thought about that. I don’t know? Hmm.
“Um, well hockey? Maybe, I think.” I told him remembering the pictures on my phone.
“Maybe? You think?” Nick was looking at me funny. I didn’t blame him. I would’ve been doing the same thing if he was talking as stupidly as I was.
“I mean, yeah.” I said shyly.
“Okay. So what are you doing in L.A.? You live pretty far away.” he asked me. I didn’t want to tell him the truth, but I didn’t want to lie to him either.
“Well,” I started, “I’ll answer your questions after you tell me about yourself.” I said trying to get the conversation turned on him.
“Well you know about me and my brothers’ band.” He started. I gave him a confused look.
“No?” I said. How would I know about his band?
“You know, the Jonas Brothers?” He said. He was confused now too. I gave him the same look, “I’m Nick Jonas? Wait, you really don’t know about us?” he seemed shocked. Did I know about his band? I had no idea.
“Sorry, but no I don’t. At least not that I remember.” I said kind of sadly.
“Oh.” he said shocked. “Well, I am in a band called the Jonas Brothers with my two older brothers, Joe and Kevin.”
“That’s cool.” I said, “Are you guys any good?”
“I’ll let you decide for yourself. Come on.” He said getting up out of his chair. I followed him out the door and onto the sidewalk.
“Where are we going?” I asked him.
“Back to my place.” he said, “Now since I told you about myself, you have to answer my questions.” he smiled.
“Okay.” I sighed. I figured I would have to tell him the truth eventually, it might as well be now.
“So why are you here in L.A. and why do you seem like you don’t want to answer my questions? He smiled at me. That made me feel a little better about what I was about to reveal.
“You want the truth?” I asked seriously. He looked at me kind of worried.
“Do you have a boyfriend that you’re visiting? Cause I..”
“No I have something worse.” I cut him off. We stopped walking. He stood in front of me and grabbed both of my hands. I looked into his eyes. Wow.
“What is it? You can tell me.” he said sympathetically.
“I have amnesia.”
