Chapter 8
Me and Nick walked through the gate of his yard. We made our way up to his front door and he stopped to reach in the pockets of his tight black pants. He pulled out key that he stuck in the keyhole and used to unlock the door.
“Welcome to my home.” He said as he opened the door. He put his arm out in front of him pointing into the house. “Ladies first.” He said smiling. I smiled back.
“Why, how kind of you.” I said chuckling. I stepped into the warm welcoming house. It smelled like apple pie.
“Mmm.” Nick said smelling the air. “Smells like Mom’s been baking.” I smiled at the look on his face. I could tell he wanted some pie.
“Hey Dad.” Nick said to a man that walked in the room who I guessed was his father.
“Hello Nicholas.” He smiled at his son and then turned to me. “Who’s this?” He asked Nick.
“This is Emily. Is it okay of she hangs out here for a little while?” He asked his dad. He smiled back at me and Nick.
“Sure, that’s fine. You know the rules though.” he said giving Nick a playful look and raising his eyebrow.
“Daaaad.” Nick whined. Me and Mr. Jonas laughed.
“Well I have to run, but it was nice meeting you Emily.” He smiled at me.
“You too.” I said smiling back. “Thank you for letting me stay for a little.”
“No problem. You guys have fun. I’ll see you later.” He said as he walked out the door.
“Sorry about him.” Nick said slightly blushing. He looked so cute.
“It’s fine. He’s really nice.” I assured him.
“Alright, well let’s go upstairs. I’ll introduce you to Kevin and Joe.” He said and I followed him up the stairs. Once we got to the top we walked down the hallway and passed two doors. When we got to the third door, Nick stopped and knocked on it twice.
“Joe?” he asked to see if his brother was in there.
“Hmmm?” came his brother’s reply from inside the room. Nick didn’t answer, he just twisted the door knob and opened the door. Once it was fully opened I saw a gorgeous, tall, dark haired guy standing there… in a towel.
“Dude!” Joe shouted and threw a pillow at his brother. He held on tight to the towel that was wrapped around his waist. Nick dodged the pillow and laughed.
“Sorry Joe.” he said laughing. I just smiled, at Nick’s reaction and at Joe.
“Did I say you could enter?” Joe said with a mean yet funny tone to his voice. Nick shook his head no as he continued to chuckle at his brother standing there in the light blue towel, with his still wet hair dripping on the ground. “And who’s the girl?” Joe asked noticing I was standing there.
“I’m Emily.” I said smiling at Joe who seemed to have forgotten that he was still in a towel.
“Oh, hey. I’m Joe.” He paused and looked down. “And I’m in a towel. Excuse me for a minute.” He said shutting the door, this time locking it.
“What a show.” I said to Nick laughing about my first impression of his brother.
“Ha yeah, he’s good for a nice laugh.” He said laughing with me. “Kevin’s room is next.” He said pointing to the next door in the hallway. “He just moved out of Joe’s and into our old guest room. He’s all happy that he can play Guitar Hero without Joe interrupting him or getting in the way now.” We walked down to the next door. Nick carefully opened it trying not to make a sound. This time when the door was opened there wasn’t another one of Nick’s brothers in a towel, but this time there was one who was rockin’ out. A tall curly headed boy was dancing around, holding a guitar shaped controller. His back was facing us as he watched the screen of a big television set in front of him. On the screen the song title said ‘My Name is Jonas’ by Weezer and the level was expert.
“Wow.” I said quietly about the way Kevin was playing. He looked really good.
“Yeah, Guitar Hero III. He just got it yesterday. He’d been wanting it since it came out but never had a chance to get it. He played it all this morning and all last night. He’s obsessed.” Nick said chuckling at his older brother’s obsession. I looked back at Kevin just as the song was over.
“YEEEESSS!” Kevin shouted as his score came on the screen. I couldn’t see what it was, but it must have been good. “One hundred percent, baby!” he shouted spinning around with his fake guitar. He kicked his leg and punched the air. “I am the Guitar Hero!” he said loudly as he jumped in the air and landed in a split. I couldn’t help but laugh. Kevin turned around, his face red with embarrassment. He saw me, Nick, and now Joe (who was now fully clothed) all laughing at him.
“All hail The Guitar Hero!” Joe said as he laughed.
“You’re just jealous of my skills!” Kevin shouted in defense, his face still red.
“Oh yeah Kevin, we all wish we could do a split like that!” Nick laughed.
“Now I see why you wanted your own room.” Joe said smiling at his older brother.
“Whatever.” Kevin said giving up on any good comebacks. “So you even brought friends to watch me embarrass myself?” he asked looking at me.
“This is Emily.” Nick said once he stopped laughing.
“Hi.” I said shyly. What was with the awkward ways I met these guys? I literally ran into Nick, I saw Joe half naked, and I saw Kevin rockin’ a little too hard.
“Hey, I’m Kevin.” He said smiling at me. “Sorry about… that.” He said awkwardly.
“It’s okay.” I smiled.
“Joe, did you get your pants on yet?” Nick asked Joe playfully. Joe gave him a look that said shut-up but he wasn’t really mad.
“Yes, Nick I did.” Joe said pointing at the tight dark blue jeans he put on.
“Do I want to know?” Kevin asked me laughing.
“No, I don’t think you do.” I answered laughing with him. After a little bit more of random talking and joking around, Nick brought up the whole reason I had come to their house in the first place.
“Guys, we have to play Emily a song. She wants to hear us play.” Nick said to his older brothers.
“You never heard us play?” Joe asked me with a confused look on his face.
“Nope.” I said to him.
“Oh,” Kevin started, “Well Frankie’s down in the basement, a.k.a. our band room, practicing with his little band right now. But once they’re done we’d love to play you some songs.”
“Alright, thank you.” I said smiling at Joe and Kevin. “Um, do you think you could point me in the direction of the bathroom?” I asked Nick.
“Sure. The first door that we passed coming up.” He said pointing towards the door.
“Thanks.” I said and headed to the bathroom. I went inside and shut and locked the door. I didn’t really have to go to the bathroom, I just wanted to look in the mirror. The bathroom was big. It had a shower with glass doors, a large black bath tub, a matching black toilet and a black marble sink. The walls were a very light blue and the tile was black marble like the sink. There were towels hanging on the walls, all the towels were light blue like the one Joe had on. Above the sink was what I was looking for. The mirror. I looked at my reflection. I smoothed down my brown hair and wiped a smudge of my eyeliner off of the corner of my right eye. I had to admit, I looked pretty good. I was feeling pretty good too, considering I was still upset that I couldn’t remember anything. I turned off the lights and walked out of the beautiful bathroom. I slowly walked back down the hallway. I heard Nick, Joe, and Kevin’s voices coming from inside Kevin’s room. I stopped and stood quietly listening to what they were saying. It was about me.
