Kevin nodded carefully looking down at the small girl. “Hi, I am Melody Pinto. I’m your daughter.” Kevin stared down at the girl in shock, Yea right, like I have a kid he thought to himself. Then there was always the possibility that she could be Jess’ little girl. Jess, it had been years since he had even heard of Jess’ life. Years since they had been together, “How old are you?” he asked the small girl.
“Eight and three quarters.” She said looking up at him, “If you are wondering my mom is Jess Pinto.”
“I was thinking that. Um, does she know you are here?” he asked her kneeling down to her height. The little girl nodded, “She wanted me to give you this.” And she handed him a letter. “Um, come on in.” and he let the girl into his apartment. “Um, put your things over there for now, and we can go to my brothers if your hungry?” the girl nodded and they headed out to his car. “This is a nice car.” She said as he opened the passenger door for her. “Mommy never lets me sit in front.” Kevin nodded and moved the seat forward and let the girl in the back seat. He closed the door and made his way to the driver’s side. “You buckled in?”
“Yea.” She said and they began the drive to Joe’s where Kevin could actually process all that had just happened in his life.
