As I walked downstairs my fingers lightly pressed over Mikayla’s pictures hung on the stairs. Kassidy was waiting at the bottom for me, a sad smile on her face. I looked over to my mother, her eyes were dim I would never see the brightness again.
No matter how hard I tried to stay away from this house I couldn’t, I just had to come and walk into her room.
“Joseph…lets go.” Kassidy whispered.
I nodded and walked over to my parents, “I’ll be back next week.”
My father’s blue eyes looked down to the floor, “Joseph…we’re selling the house.”
Everything froze, all the memories I had in this house were all going to be gone, never again, “What?” I asked in disbelief.
“This is bad for the whole family, Mikayla wouldn’t have wanted this!”
“I wish everyone would stop saying that!” I clenched my teeth, “You don’t know what she would have wanted!”
My mother looked at me shocked, I had never raised my voice to them. I turned around and ran up the stairs, “Joe…” Kassidy ran behind me
I sighed and entered her room once again; I grabbed her purple suitcase and started looking through her drawers.
“What are you doing?” I turned around to see my wife at the openening of the room, “You’ve got to let her go!”
I stood up fighting back my anger, “Please leave me alone.”
She sighed teary eyed, “Joseph this is bad for you.”
“You’re not the one with a dead sister.” I muttered kneeling back down at her night table.
No one had gone through her things; everything was the same just like she left it.
I found pictures of her and Dani, he best friend. The only girl that tried to save her from her marriage. I owed Dani everything for keeping my sister.
The vogue magazine lay next to the pictures, with her on the cover. The heavy dark make-up made her beautiful eyes stand out. I placed the pictures and the magazine in the suitcase.
I stood up and looked in her closet. A smile crept on my face when I saw the teddy bear I had given her sit next to the presents my other brothers gave her. I pulled out her favorite sweater, the simple one. Red with a checkered black hood.
It still smelled like her, and that made me insane.
I threw it in the suitcase; on the top her closet was a dark shoebox. I reached for it and everything fell all over the floor.
I sat on the floor and collected them.
Valentine cards from us and her friends. Secret letters from Danielle, with the words ‘keep it hush hush’
I dare not open that, but instead I did. There wasn’t anything in that letter that I hadn’t tickled out of Mikayla’s mouth.
There was only one piece of paper left in the box. I lifted an eyebrow and brought the box close to me.
I reached inside and pulled out a wrinkled paper
I miss you, like I’ve never missed you before. And I’m sorry about the fight with Joe…I didn’t mean for anything to happen, it was just a kiss.
RYAN
My anger filled me once again, the satisfaction of the paper crumpling in my hand made me smirk. Ryan had to die, if he hadn’t kissed her that night none of this would have happened. He had to die
