Text It To Me

Her eyes flashed open and she reached her hand over onto the bed, where she knew he was sleeping that night. She let out a soft breath feeling his body lying next to her own and closes her eyes to drift back to sleep. But sleep doesn’t come as easily as planned she had just dreamt that the love of her life had died, it had seemed so real that she awoke in tears.  It wasn’t really a dream it was more of a nightmare, and it scared her more than anything else had before.  Somehow she drifts to sleep and only awakes to the sound of her phone playing a tone, indicating she just got a text message. She pulls her phone open and realizes that the text message is from one of her best friends Will.
Ash,
I just woke up in tears from laughing so hard.
Cause I had a dream that Nick J called the cops on you.
She just rolled her eyes, she was dating Nick J why would he call the cops on her. She reaches her hand over and automatically sits up in bed. That side is cold, that’s the side he always slept on, and since it was cold he hadn’t been there in a while.
She slipped out of the bed and pulled a robe over her scantly clad body, before making her way around their apartment. But it didn’t look like their apartment, his guitars weren’t lined up against the wall, there weren’t the pictures of the two of them on every flat surface, it was like he was never there. And that’s when she knew something was wrong.
“Nick?”
She called out his voice softly concerned. There was no answer and she tried again calling his name a little bit louder.
“Nick?!”
Still no answer well other than the sound of her own footsteps.
“NICK! This isn’t funny!”
She feels a pair of arms wrap around her waist and she turns smiling expecting her boyfriend of almost two years. But that isn’t who has his arms wrapped around her body. No the face looking down on her was that of some boy she had never seen before.
“Who are you?”
“Well baby…”
He doesn’t get any further than that before Ashley pulls away from him and looks at the phone in her hand. She dials the number of one of her best friends as she locks herself in her room.
“Stephani!”
“Ashley do you realize that I am extremely hung over, and the boy I am with is extremely horny.”
“Ew I did not need to know that about Kevin.”
There is a pause on the phone and then Stephani speaks again.
“What are you talking about? You’re the one dating Kevin. I know you got plastered last night but it shouldn’t be that hard for you to remember your boyfriend is Kevin and my boyfriend is Ricky.”
Ashley looks down at the phone in shock. Stephani had been dating Kevin Jonas for longer than she had been dating Nick Jonas, for longer than Crystal had been dating Joe Jonas.
“What are you talking about? My boyfriend’s name is Nick Jonas, we have been dating for almost two years, we live together. You are dating Kevin Jonas, have been for like three years, you two are going to get married. Crystal is dating Joe Jonas, and they have been together for like a year.”
“Okay Ash you are not allowed to drink when we go out anymore. You’ve been dating Kevin for almost two years, you live with Kevin. I’m dating Ricky, I’ve been dating him for almost three years. As soon as he turned 18 we are getting married. And Crystal has never had a boyfriend, she’s just Ricky’s spinster sister.”
“I’m gonna have to call you back.”
Ashley hangs up the phone and opens the door spotting ‘her boyfriend’ standing there looking back at her.
“Hey…”
“Baby are you feeling okay? Ricky said you called Steph and were talking a bunch of bull.”
“Yea Kevo I’m fine… um don’t call me baby.”
“Why not you love it when I call you baby especially in bed.”
Ashley shutters feeling disgusted with Kevin and herself, she could not believe that was her boyfriend, someone must be playing a cruel joke on her. It wasn’t April first, it couldn’t be but all of her friends and apparently some strangers, were working on pulling a prank on her.
“Um yea can we not talk about that ever. I need to go to work…”
“What are you talking about Ash? You haven’t had a job since you had April.”
“April?”
Ashley looks shocked at Kevin and he nods to a room down the hall, they walk together, he was following her, and when she looks inside she spots a gorgeous little girl who can’t be more than six months old sleeping in a crib.
“She is not mine.”
“Ash are you kidding me? Don’t you remember the ten hours of labor?”
“No! I’m not your girlfriend. I’m not her mother! I don’t even know who you are! Please get out of my house! Bring Nick back! And tell everyone I hate pranks!”
“Who is this Nick you keep calling for? I mean if I didn’t know any better I’d say you were cheating on me.”
Ashley’s face distorts and she looks at the boy like he is crazy.
“HOW CAN I BE CHEATIN ON YOU! I DON’T KNOW YOU!”
“Ash this joke is getting tired, seriously honey.”
“I’m not kidding I have not a clue who you are. And I’d really like it if you would just leave me alone.”
Kevin looks shocked down at Ashley before snarling out his reply.
“You know what I’m not coming back! We are over. And since April isn’t yours, don’t except to see her ever again.”
Kevin reaches down into the crib picking up the now awake little girl and storming out of the room leaving Ashley alone. She makes her way around the apartment remember how that wall had once held pictures of Nick as a child. How that room was decorated with his bands stuff. How they had broke the table in that room when going at it one day.
Everything reminded her of him, even though this wasn’t the apartment that they had shared and with a little sigh she goes and lies back down on the bed, ready to go to sleep, start the next day without him, and try to figure out everything about her life, since she apparently knew nothing at all. Her eyes drop slowly as she falls to sleep, tired out from the morning she just had.
Oh this is where the story ends a conversation on IM.
Ashley reaches her hand over and opens up her cell phone spotting a text message from Will once again. She groans opening the message expecting some crude comment again and something else wrong with her life.
Ash,
I just woke up crying
cause I dreamed you died.
good thing it was only a dream.
Ashley shakes her head and sets the phone back down on her desk, still upset that nothing in her life is what it used to be.
“What was Will’s dream about this time?”
The groggy voice next to Ashley causes her to turn her head and then she spots the boy she had been searching so furiously for.
“Nothing Nick go back to sleep.”
He leans up and kisses her softly before falling back onto the pillow, as soon as his head hits it he is out. Ashley reaches over to her phone and types a quick reply to Will.
Next time you have a dream don’t text it to me.
