CHAPTER ONE:
SIX MONTHS AGO
"Ella Jade!" I heard my stepmom, Melinda screaming from the kitchen. I was sitting alone in the attic which I called my room. I stared at the calculus question infront of me and let out a huge sigh. "ELLA! GET DOWN HERE NOW!"
"I`m coming Linda..." I shouted back at her, groaning inwardly. Slowly, I got off my bed and dragged my feet towards the door, letting the floor board squeak beneath me. I made my way to the kitchen and saw Melinda, with her two spoiled twin daughters, Alex and Aaryn, sitting at the table, reading gossip magazines and playing with their acrylic french manicures. "What is it Linda....Im busy"
"Well" Melinda sighed taking her eyes of her magazine. "Stop what you're doing. I need a favour."
I took the seat across from her and waited for her to continue.
"As you know, I am going for some more... uh.. surgery today" She spoke. "And I completley forgot that Alex and Aaryn have a concert tonight. I want you to take my ticket, and take them."
"What?" I complained. "Why can't they go themselves"
"We're ONLY fourteen Ella" Aaryn smiled at me, flipping her long brown hair. "What if we get kidnapped there? I mean... y'know everyone wants us... because were SO beautiful"
"You got that right sister" Alex giggled and high-fived her sister.
"But... I have other plans!" I groaned.
"Psh, YOU have PLANS?" Melinda mused."Don't lie to me Ella. I know you dont have any friends at school. You're taking them and thats final." Alex and Aaryn giggled again as they ran off into their rooms.
"This is not fair Linda." I scolded at her. "Im not your slave"
"When youre under MY roof, you are." She flipped a page in her magazine.
"This isnt YOUR house, its my FATHERS."
"Well, Do you SEE him around anymore?" Melinda banged the table with her fist. "He's gone now, and I`M in charge now, and when I tell you waht to do, you do it. No questions asked."
I could feel the tears bubble up in my eyes when she mentioned my dad. Unable to say anything else, I turned my back towards her and ran into my room. I collapsed onto my bed and hugged my pillow tight. The warm tears started to trickle down my cheek. this is so unfair... i miss you Dad.
It was a only a few months ago when my father passed away. I`ll never forget the day when I got that one, unwanted phone call saying that he killed himself. I couldn't help but not understand why he would so something like this. He was so happy, successful and loving. I can still hear him say "I love you Elles."
I sunk my face into my pillow and started to sob. Sometimes, I just wish that for once, things would be diffrent.
"EEELLLLLLAAAAAA!" Aaryn disrupted my thoughts, barging into my room. "ELLLLAAAAAAA!! WAKE UP"
"I am awake" I sniffled."Go away."
"NO" Aaryn demanded. "You have to bring us to school REMEMBER?! Geez El."
"Okay, whatever. Meet me in the car"
