A Million Raindrops Annie’s eyes searched the airport. Nothing. Maybe she was too late. Maybe he left without saying goodbye. Maybe it was easier for him. She felt alone and small in the huge airport. She kept on looking. She looked at all the passing people why was she so scared? She knew this day was coming. She felt the tears begin to come to the surface of her eyes. She tried to hold them back but they fell one by one onto the tiled floor and splattered. Just like her dreams. She wiped back the tears and tired looking around some more. She finally spotted someone looking just as hard as her. Her heart leaped. She tried calling his name but she couldn’t. Finally he called hers. “Annie!” He came running towards her. She ran to him. Arms spread wide open. They embraced each other for a long time. He ran his hands down her hair as she buried her head in his chest. The tears socked his shirt. She could feel he rest his head on top of hers. She held on tight never wanting to let go. She could hear him sniff trying to fight the tears. “Three thousand miles isn’t that far.” He tried to tell her. She couldn’t bear it . “It is when your on the other side of it.” Annie said. “I know.” he replied. She looked up with tears in her eyes only to see he had just as many. “I love you.” he said pulling her back into him. “I love you too.” Annie said. He leaned down and kissed her. He tuned his head. He had to go. “Please don’t go.” Annie begged. “I know, I have to, just remember we will be separated but we, us,” He motioned back and forth between him and her. “We will never be apart.” Annie’s eyes still had tears in them. “I love you.” She said hugging him one last time. “ I love you too.” He said kissing her on top of her head and then turning to leave. He ran off into the crowds of people. “Bye, Joe.” Annie said to herself as she too got lost in the crowd of people. Separated but Never Apart (part 2) Annie sat hugging her knees on the roof outside her bedroom window starring up at the night sky. She watched as a plane flew over above. She knew it was impossible but she couldn’t help but wonder if he was on it. Was he looking down thinking about her as she looked up thinking about him. Was all of it possible. Was he really gone? If he really loved her would he leave the whole way across the country. She felt a tear trickle down her cheek and land on her knee on which her head now rested. Her cell phone rang in her pocket. She pulled out her blue razor phone and looked at the caller ID. “Joe.” she whispered to herself. She answered. “Hello.” “Hey. It’s umm.. Me.” She heard Joe say in a quiet voice. “Yeah, I know.” Annie said tucking a piece of hair behind her ear and wiping a stray tear from her eye that formed when she heard his voice. “We landed, we’re in L. A. now.” Joe said, but then a long pause set in. Joe could hear Annie whimpering through the phone. He looked down at his shoes. There really was nothing he could do. “Annie, I’ll be back in a few months.” He tried to comfort her. But any way he put it, him being away sounded bad. Annie loved hearing his voice. She hated that it was coming from a phone. “Joe, why did you leave.” Annie asked. The question haunted her for so long but she could never find the courage to ask it. Joe sighed to himself and kicked a stone outside of his new home. “Sometimes our dreams make decisions for us.” Joe answered after a long pause. Annie felt more tears. She didn’t want to cry. “Don’t you ever want to wake up?” Annie persisted hoping that he would say yes. She knew it was stupid to even think this but she still hoped maybe he would get on the plane and come back. He would hold her and tell her everything is alright now. “Are you in my dream?” Joe asked a smile coming to his face. He could imagine Annie’s face…she would gently roll her eyes. Not in the ticked off way just as a way of saying yes. “It’s you dream, don’t you have to decide?” Annie said actually smiling. “What if I say yes?” Joe said smiling, anxiously waiting for her answer. “Then …wouldn’t you come home.?” Annie said her smiling fading and tears building up. She was fighting them so hard it effected her speech. “Annie…” Joe began but Annie cut him off. “Joe…make a choice. I am graduating next week. We could move on…But it ‘s up to you. Make you choice. Joe I can’t go on like this the one I love 3,000 miles away from me. Please Joseph. Me…or your Rock Star?” It killed Annie to say that. But every word of it was true. She couldn’t go another day with out knowing that Joe was really going to come home or not. She needed a promise. Joe felt his knees go weak. He took a deep breath. He couldn’t believe what he was going to say. “Rock star.” Joe said letting out the deep breath he had taken in. Annie closed her eyes. The words she heard in her head where now ringing in it. “Ok Joseph, but I just want you to know something…” The tears poured down her cheek like a flood of raindrops. “When the world hates you…when your fans move on the next boy band…when you are no longer Joe Jonas and your just Joseph.” She paused wiping the flooding tears from her eyes. “I will still be your biggest fan. Not a Joe Jonas fan. A Joseph fan.” “Annie…” “Bye Joseph.” Annie said before he could finish what he was about to say. Annie turned and climbed back into her bedroom window from the roof. She laid on her bed and looked at the ceiling. She started to cry. Every sad thing came back to her. She was hysterical. She loved Joe, but he didn’t need her. Joe looked down at the ground as he closed his phone. He didn’t need her right?

A Million Rain Drops (Part 3) Annie looked out over the crowds of people packed into the gym for graduation. She was playing with her speech cards she hand palmed in her hand. She searched trying to find her mom and dad. It was almost hopeless in all the people. She almost jumped when she heard the principal call her name. “Now please welcome of Annie Page.” Annie was graduating top of her class. She made her way to the podium to give her speech. Finally she could see everybody in the crowd. She saw her parents and quickly smiled. She closed her eyes fast and reopened them. Maybe he was there. She glanced, no. Of course what was she thinking. She smiled and began her speech. “Ladies and Gentlemen, teachers, and classmates we have all worked hard in someway to get here. Parents you have worked hard to raise your children. Teachers you have worked hard teaching us stubborn teenagers. And classmates you have worked hard just to make it through high school. With working hard comes time we are disappointed. Being a teenage girl you can imagine all the disappointments I had through high school. I have come to believe that those disappointments are just northern stars pointing us in the right directions. But disappointments remind me of raindrops. When its pouring down rain and you go stand in it with you face towards the sky the raindrops hit you. At first you wince because that slight pain. However when the slight pain has gone from a heavy raindrop hitting you, you feel the cool refreshing water run down your cheek it is all worth it…” The rest of her speech was a blur to her. Yes she was saying it but her mind was focusing on what she had just said. She thought about a disappointment that she looked at as the heaviest raindrop she had ever experienced in her life, Joe After being greeted by many hugs and tears from her friends Annie flopped on her bed at home. Her mom knocked on her door, “Come in” She said yawning . “Hey honey, you have mail, lots of mail.” Her mom said giving her a pile of envelopes. “Graduation Cards?” “Probably.” Annie flipped through the pile of cards. She glanced at a card. With no return address just hers on a old looking envelope. “Huh…” Annie said. She was going to open it until she noticed on from her uncle. She hurried open that one. Soon Annie drifted off to sleep slowly as the unknown envelope fell from her fingers to under the bed.
