TEASER

I can't really say that I believe in fate. Not entirely at least. However I do believe in luck. And that's exactly what I had. I was lucky enough  to be able to make all my dreams come true. Lucky enough to have such a great supoort group to help me overcome my diabetes every night. And I was lucky enough to meet her.

She lived in my subdivision. Westgate was the last place you'd expect to find someone as irrevocably beautiful as her. Which is maybe why we moved here, because this tiny town was way off the radar. I remembered the day I first saw her. I tried not to stare, but she was something like an undiscovered movie star. Everything about her was so natural. She had this careless air to her. She'd smile down at her chocolate lab and giggle when it snapped at passing butterflies. Occasionally she'd jog, and let her dog drag her when he sprinted. Sometimes she'd unhook his leash, and through him a neon green tennis ball. Whatever she did, it worked for her. I made her all that more appealing.

Our first encounter was embarassing. To put it plainly, I hadn't been monitoring my diabetes properly. At some point I had doubled over, and squeezed my stomach tigth with my free hand. I tried to strangle the pain, but then I blacked out. The last thing I felt was my dog's leash slipping through my fingertips. Fainting was the least of my worries. In my supconcious stupor I'd realized that I'd let go of the dog. My brothers would be devestated for two reasons now.

All it took was one tiny arm, shaking me, to wake up. Her quiet angelic voice begging me to open my eyes.
Was I dreaming, or what?
