Losing Grip
Chapter One
"Say cheese". His finger hit the button and the moment was saved, still and precious. He couldn't believe his eyes. Five years went by so fast. He looked back to her first smile, her first steps, her first word. They were joyful memories of course, but there was a piece of the puzzle that was missing from every picture.
He fought back tears as she began to rip open the presents. Her eyes immediately light up as she tore the paper away.
"Hannah, that one is from me and aunt Carlie.", Joe said with a smirk. Kevin's face paled a bit in fear.
"It's a keyboard!", she exclaimed, a smile reaching ear to ear. Then, she noticed another present with the same colorful paper and didn't hesitate to grab it. "And a tambourine!", she yelled. She ran over and hugged Joe and Carlie. Kevin, wasn't as pleased as she was. At five years old, toys that made that much noise were just asking for trouble.
"Ok, Uncle Nick's present is next." Kevin Sr. presented her with the gift. Denise stood next to Emily, Nick's girlfriend, and held her camera the whole time.
"What is it, Hannah?", Kevin asked curiously.
"It's a book?", she said with a fake smile. Even at such a young age, she knew how to make people happy even if she didn't like something.
"Dude, a book?", Joe asked.
"It's an Elvis Costello song book!" Nick rolled his eyes, and shrugged.
"Don't worry, Hannah, Nick didn't know but I got you something too", Emily spoke, handing her yet another box. It was a barbie doll and Hannah was much more content with it. The sun was setting and they were losing the light in the back yard so they hurried along with the last two gifts. Next, was Denise and Kevin Sr. She thanked them for the doll house and then it was Kevin's turn. No one knew what it was. He had been so secretive the past few days that they worried a bit. When Kevin kept something to himself, it was always a shock when it came out.
He handed her a bag and she pulled out the contents. It was a music box. Everyone was a little confused. All except Denise. She started to get a little teary. Joe walked over and comforted her.
"This music box belonged to your mommy, Hannah.", Kevin said. He took a deep breath, still trying to stay strong in front of everyone. "I think she'd want you to have it now."

Aimee gazed in the mirror at her reflection. It was finally the big day; the one every girl dreams of. But, it wasn't what she had hoped for. Her dress was long, and beautiful. The flowers were extravegant and her whole family was out there, waiting for her to take that walk down the aisle. It would be perfect in any one else's eyes. Those aspects were fairytale like, but there was one problem with the overall wedding. The groom.
