Prologue
She hugged her knees close to her body as she sat on her window seat and looked out at the cold bleak world beyond the glass. The rain hit the window panes and began to blur her vision of the outside world. She wiped away a single tear that had begun to fall.
She had lost all feeling; she was a numb, lifeless shell of who she used to be. She couldn’t smile anymore, she couldn’t pretend that she was happy just to make others feel better about themselves. She wasn’t happy and the chance of her ever being happy again was slim.
It was hard to believe that it had been just four short days ago that she had been smiling and laughing. She had no idea what to do with her life now, everything had fallen apart. Her entire life plan gone, along with everyone and everything she had ever cared about.
He had taken her life with him when he walked out the door. He promised he would never leave her, no matter what happened he would always be there for her. He made that promise to her and sealed it in their wedding vows.
Then he got the call, the one that she would forever wish that they had neglected to answer. Even if they hadn’t answered she probably would have left a message.
She never thought that she had competition for his heart. She thought that he loved her and only her, but the look on his face when he heard her voice over the phone secured her feelings that she had lost him for good.
He walked out the door without another look at her. Just that love struck look on his face.
She hadn’t left her house since he walked out, didn’t answer her phone (even though she knew he had called), she hadn’t eaten, or even cared what happened to herself.
