Because, I Love You♥
Ashleigh laid on her bed, while Edwin McCain serenaded her over the radio. Tears bubbling up in her eyes’ knowing that it was their song. She clutched onto her phone, holding it close to her heart just wishing that he would call. She looked at a framed picture on the nightstand. It was taken on their date, nervous, awkward smiles were shared when they were holding hands, and she could almost feel the sweaty palms. Memories came rushing to her head.
A large Ferris wheel was beautifully lit behind them in the picture. Ashleigh still remembered what Joe had said to her that night, the first thing that made her smile. Pink and green fireworks filled the sky while her and Joe was stuck on the top of the wheel.
“ Isn’t it beautiful Joe, the fireworks?” Ashleigh gazed at the sky, smiling.
“I’ve seen better” He said. “And she’s sitting right next to me.”
Ashleigh brushed the memory away and brought herself back to reality, their song was still playing.
And rain falls, heavy on the tin roof,
As we lie awake in my bed
You’re my survival,
You’re my living truth
My love is alive---not dead.
Those lyrics brought her back to their first fight; it was over broken plans, and broken promises. That’s the night that Ashleigh wanted to give up, she stormed out of Joe’s house, tears falling to the ground while the rain hit her head heavily, she was running fast and she never wanted to stop.
Joe stopped her, midway grabbing her by the wrist and pulling her closer to him.
“Don’t go Ashleigh” Joe breathed.
“Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t!” Ashleigh trying pulling away from him, Joe just held onto her tighter.
“Because I love you!” He kissed her on the lips with a deep passion, making her prove that what he said was true. “I love you” He repeated, combing her wet, tangled hair with his fingers. “I always will.”
Ashleigh snapped out of the memory again, getting angry. She didn’t want to think about him, she wanted to be happy. She didn’t want to think about how Joe just left her, leaving her broken hearted, cold and alone. Tears were rolling down her cheeks uncontrollably as she ran out of her house, to her favorite place, the swing under the big apple tree.
Just before she was going to sit down, a small piece of paper, held down by a rock was rested on the seat. She picked it up and unfolded it.
Don’t give up just yet, because I love you. And I always will, and to prove it, just turn around.
-Joe.
Ashleigh wiped her tears away and pivoted her body. Joe stood there, holding one single red rose eyes almost filling with tears,
“Ash, I don’t know what I was thinking when I left. I have been so miserable without you.”
“Joe…” Tears started to stream down her face again, Joe pulled her in closer, lips inches away from each other.
“Don’t speak” Joe whispered. “Let me prove that it was you, all along.”
He kissed her on the lips, she same passionate kiss that made Ashleigh melt.
THE END,
