Chapter 2 – An Unexpected Change of the Weather
“Is this seat taken?” the oddly familiar guy asked me.
“Ugh, no go ahead.” I was still smiling uncontrollably.
“Thanks.” He extended his hand across the wooden table towards mine. “I’m Nick Jonas.”
I wasn’t sure if I heard him correctly. Did he just introduce himself as Nick Jonas? I slowly wrapped my hand around his and gave it a light shake. I could feel my cheeks start to tense up because of how big my smile was becoming.
“I’m, ugh, um, I’m Janie. Ya I’m Janie Jackson.” I added.
“Janie, mhmm….” he was studying my facial features as if he were going to have a quiz on it. “…is that short for anything?”
“Ugh, no it’s just Janie.” I replied shyly.
“I like it.” He said still smiling.
“Thank you?” I wasn’t used to being complimented on my name.
“Can I ask you a question?” He asked right as the waiter brought me my salad. I took a big bite and nodded my head gesturing to him that he could. “Have you ever modeled?”
I was in complete shock, why would he ask me that? I literally choked on the leaves going down my throat. I swallowed and took a big long gulp of my water.
“Um, I’ve attempted but lets’ just say it didn’t work out.” I replied, not wanting to spill my guts out to him about how many times I have been rejected.
“Oh, well would you consider trying again?” He asked with pure innocence.
“I guess I could. I mean I wouldn’t mind trying again.” What does a rock star like Nick Jonas want with a wannabe model?
“That’s great. My brothers and I would love for you to be a model for our new clothing line. I mean if you’re up to it.” He sounded hopeful.
“Me? You want me? A model for you? The Jonas Brothers want me?” I was so shocked I pinched my thigh to make sure this was real. Ouch. Yup definitely real.
“Ya, you’re…perfect.” He looked right into my eyes as he said that. He scribbled something on a napkin then slid it over to me. “Come to this address tomorrow at 2.”
I looked down at the paper in shock at the scene that was unfolding before my eyes. I mean seriously you would be in the same state of mind if you were in my position. I just nodded my head showing that I understood what he wanted me to do and that I would be there.
“So tell me a little bit about yourself.” He said trying to bring me back to where we were at the moment, we were at Home, outside, and I was talking to Nick Jonas, totally normal.
“Ugh, um, okay, well like what?” I asked a little confused.
“Um, how about we play 20 questions?” He asked trying to make it easier for me.
“Is this like an interview?”
“Wha—oh ya sure.” He said kind of unsure himself.
“Oh okay shoot.” I said getting a tad bit comfortable with the situation.
“What is your favorite color?”
“Yellow.”
“Favorite Ice-Cream?”
“Mint chocolate chip.”
“Favorite Season?”
“Winter.”
This went on for like ever. I didn’t notice how dark it was getting till I looked at my watch. 10:30!
“Favor—.” I cut him off.
“Um you’re on your like 45th question and I really have to go. I’m sorry.” I stood up grabbing my bag but he stopped me.
“One more question?” He asked with a sparkle in his eyes.
“Make it a good one.” How could I turn him down?
“What is your favorite flower?”
“Sunflowers, now I really have to go, my Aunt is going to kill me.” I walked towards the sidewalk and he walked with me.
“How far do you live from here?”
“Far enough.” I said with a slight giggle.
“Um, well it’s really dark, do you want a ride?” He asked sincerely.
I was debating whether or not to accept his request. He was Nick Jonas but still he was a complete stranger. I finally gave in.
“Sure, that would be nice.” I just couldn’t say no.
He escorted me to the big black SUV standing about two blocks away. I climbed in slowly as Nick closed the door behind me I told Norman, well Nick told me that was his name, where I lived. The drive wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The silence that enveloped us wasn’t awkward and I got chills up and down my spine every time Nick’s arm brushed against mine. We soon pulled up to my drive way and Nick opened my door. I walked over to the driver’s side to where Norman was.
“Thank you Norman.” I said as I would to anyone.
“You’re welcome.” He replied as a small almost unnoticeable smile grew across his wrinkled face.
I glanced at the window and saw my Aunt’s cold hard eyes watching Nick, ready to freeze anyone in here way. Before I opened the door I turned back to the car. Nick was getting in but stopped when he saw me and gave a light wave. I smiled and walked in ready for my Aunt to bombard me with questions.
So did you like it like at all? I have gotten one comment and it made me smile, anyone else want to tbe the reason for my ah-mazing smile?
