LoveBug
“I think I love her,” he stated confidently as his brothers stared at him.
“You can’t be serious, Nick.”
“And why is that?” He folded his muscular arms across his chest, waiting for a proper explanation.
“You’re fifteen years-old,” Kevin started. “Don’t you think it’s a little too early in your life to be falling in love?”
“Kevin’s right,” Joe choked out. “You’re still a teenager – worry about this stuff later.” He patted his brother’s shoulder as he walked out the door.
Nick lowered his brown eyes to the floor, upset that his family didn’t support him. “How come you don’t believe me?”
“Aw, of course we believe you, man. I just think that maybe…you should forget about this for a while. Rushing things from the start of a relationship is probably the worst thing.”
He looked at his eldest brother, scowling. “I’ll tell her. She loves me back; just watch and learn, Kev.” Nick stomped out of their home and down the street, thinking about one thing and one thing only – her.
Called her for the first time yesterday
Finally found the missing part of me
I felt so close but you were far away
Left me without anything to say
“Hello?” She picked up the phone, almost sounding confused about the unknown number that showed on her called ID.
“Hey, Sarah.” He smiled at the sound of her voice. “It’s Nick…Jonas.”
“Oh, hi.” Sarah was thankful that they weren’t on iChat; she would feel silly if Nick saw her beaming like she was. “It’s been a while, eh?”
“Yeah,” he laughed, wetting his lips, wishing she was there in front of him. “I can’t believe I waited until December to call.”
“Neither can I.” She shook her upcoming sadness away, and thought back to the time they first met…
August 9th, 2008:
She waited in line anxiously, still standing in the same spot she was in ten minutes ago. The line finally began to move, and Sarah actually caught a glimpse of the three boys she was there for. She leaned over the person in front of her a bit, trying to get a better view of the band. The middle brother, Joe, looked over at her, smiling briefly then turning back to the fan before him.
Sarah smiled down at her feet, blushing from a mix of happiness and excitement. The girl behind her nudged her ribcage, and spun her around. “Oh my gosh, Joe just looked at you!” she yelled.
“I know,” she giggled. But she was there for someone else.
As the line moved closer to the meet & greet table, Sarah became more nervous than she had ever been in her life.
“Hi, how are you?” The oldest brother greeted her kindly, smiling with joy.
“Good,” was all she managed to get out of her mouth. Sarah smiled like a true geek, inwardly kicking herself for her sudden memory loss.
As she walked a foot or two, she laid eyes on the most beautiful boy on the planet – Nick Jonas. All he was wearing was a pair of dark wash skinny jeans and a light blue muscle shirt. She took a moment to catch her breath, then asked the question that could change her life. “Nick, can I have a hug?”
All he did was stare, so she asked once more. “Can I have a hug, Nick?”
Once again, stares were exchanged between the two. For Nick, he was receiving an anxious, partially sad stare, while Sarah received a totally smitten one from his deep brown eyes.
“Okay, time to move on,” a security guard yelled from behind her.
“But…” Her voice trailed off while a security guard pointed to the right of him.
Sarah walked over to the one who had smiled at her earlier, grabbed her autographed CD, then proceeded with walking away from what could’ve been the best day of her entire lifetime.
“Wait!” a male voice called after her. She turned around to see Nick standing inches away from her. “Can I have your number?”
Smiling like an idiot, she took the black Sharpie from his hands and jotted down her ten-digit phone number. “There you go.” She held out her arms to him; if he got her number, then she was getting a hug.
He gave her a quick, warm hug, smiled, and walked back over to his brothers. As he stood in his place between them, he sent a small wave to her.
Sarah quickly waved back and ran over to the tent-covered area where her annoyed sister was waiting. “Ready to go?”
“Gee, I thought you would never ask.” She grabbed her by the wrist, pulling her through the line of remaining people.
Present:
Sarah tucked a strand of wavy blonde hair away behind her ear and bit her bottom lip. “I’m glad you called though.”
“Me too.”
She giggled, slightly embarrassed at how sweet he was.
Nick chuckled along with her, weaving throughout the backstage rooms. “Ugh,” he groaned as his father spoke to him.
“You okay?”
“This has been great talking to you, Sarah, but I have to go.” He eyed his dad angrily, pracitcally burning holes through his back. “I’m really sorry.”
“Oh, don’t be. I understand.” She smiled weakly into her phone. “Have a good show.”
“Thank you.” He sighed, making a whistling noise in her earpiece. “Bye, Sarah.”
“Bye, Nick.”
Click.
She rolled onto her back, staring up at the glow-in-the-dark stars on her ceiling. As she closed her eyes, she wished for Nick on every little plastic star.
Now I'm speechless, over the edge
I'm just breathless
I never thought that I'd catch this lovebug again
Hopeless, head over heels, in the moment
I never thought that I'd get hit by this lovebug again
Nick ran over to the gate and got in line, waiting impatiently for the plane to board. He could barely contain his excitement – he was finally getting to see Sarah again.
Once he had his seatbelt sercurely fastened, he pulled out his iPhone and sent a quick text to her.
I’m on the plane now; see you soon :)
-Nick.
He switched off his cell phone, slipping it into the small pocket of his carryon.
Nick leaned back, pushing his large mass of curls into the cushioned headrest. Sighing, he fell into a deep slumber, dreaming of her face.
“Sir?” A petite woman stood beside him, shaking his arm. “Sir, the plane has landed.”
Nick’s eyes shot open as he unbuckled himself. “Thank you!” He grabbed his bag and ran off the now empty plane.
Walking through the crowded halls, he searched the airport for Sarah. He looked all over the place, and finally laid eyes on a familiar girl who looked like she was yelling at a man who stood behind the guest relations desk.
“The plane was said to land an hour ago, and he’s still not here!” she shouted.
“Ma’am, are you sure you have the correct flight number?”
“Yes; flight 608 from Los Angelos, California.”
While she wasn’t paying any attention to her surroundings, Nick snuck up behind her and poked her sides.
“Ah!” Sarah screamed – she hated when people touched her ticklish spot – and turned around to find the person she’d been looking for. “Nick!” She threw her arms around him.
“Hey,” he said warmly, hugging her back.
“Wow, I haven’t seen you in…forver.” She pulled away and took a good look at him. “I missed you.”
“I missed you, too.”
The man behind the desk cleared his throat, tapping his foot on the cool tiled floor.
“Nevermind! Sorry for the trouble…” She checked his nametag. “…Have a great day, Bill!” Sarah grabbed Nick’s hand, escorting him through a crowd of people to the baggage claim.
He looked down at their intertwined fingers, a chill running down his spine. Even though it wasn’t much, he was so grateful that he could be there with her in that very moment.
I can't get your smile out of my mind
(I can't get you out of my mind)
I think about your eyes all the time
You're beautiful, but you don't even try
(You don't even, don't even try)
Modesty is just so hard to find
He sat on the tire swing, watching Sarah run and dance around her yard to his band’s new single. No matter how hard he tried, he wasn’t able to forget her radiant smile. As he watched her, he couldn’t help but feel that she was glowing; that she was perfect.
“Come on, get up!” She hit his knee playfully, trying to resist the strong urge to pull him out of the tire and onto the ground.
“Alright, fine.” He tugged his legs out of the black circle, and danced around on the green grass with her. “You know, it’s sort of weird dancing to my own song,” he laughed.
“Excuses, excuses. You’re still dancing!” Sarah took his hands in hers, spinning around in small paths with him. She giggled wildly, letting the wind run through her long hair.
Nick’s legs finally gave out on him, and he fell to the soft ground, his breathing heavy. “Okay, that’s enough for me.”
She continued to giggle, and collapsed next to him. “Yeah, I’m pretty tired,” she admitted. “I probably look horrible right now.” Sarah brushed her hair away from her green eyes and wiped beads of sweat off her forehead.
He turned on his side and looked at her carefully. “You look beautiful.”
“Really?”
He nodded.
“Thanks.” She looked down at the ground, blushing. “You’re awesome, Nick.”
“You too,” he smiled. “How about we go get some coffee?” Nick got up and brushed himself off, then reached for Sarah and pulled her up.
“Sounds great.”
The two walked inside on the early spring day, their arms linked with each other’s.
Now I'm speechless, over the edge
I'm just breathless
I never thought that I'd catch this lovebug again
Hopeless, head over heels, in the moment
I never thought that I'd get hit by this lovebug again
He watched her as she sat in her seat, waiting eagerly on the caffiene-filled drink. Nick poured the brown liquid into the mugs quickly, without any spills or dripping. He set down the steaming mug in front of her, laughing as she picked it up immediately.
“Ah, thank you!” Sarah sipped on her coffee, hoping to absorb more energy with each gulp. “I have no energy left at all after I do that.”
“Do what?” he asked curiously, co.cking his head to the side.
“Dance around my yard like a maniac.”
“Oh, so you’re not just excited that I’m here?” Nick asked innocently.
She slapped his arm and picked up the mug once again. “No; it’s just a way for me to get all of my stress out, I guess.”
“Stress?”
“Yeah, with school, guys, and dumb drama.” She rolled her eyes at the thought.
“Oh,” he sighed. “Why would guys cause you stress?”
“I went a few dates this year with some obnoxious guys that just liked me because I was hot. That put me on the edge, and just really ticked me off.”
“Aw, I’m sorry.” Nick reached over and placed a hand on her shouler. “Those guys didn’t even deserve a date with you.”
She looked up from staring at her coffee and smirked. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Nick coughed a few times, forgetting they were still just friends. “Well…you’re a really nice girl, and they obviously don’t see that, so what’s the point?”
“Oh.” She stared blankly at the wall behind his head. “That’s really sweet; thanks, Nick.”
“Uh, no problem.” He flashed her a weak smile and took a long swig of the brown liquid before him.
Kissed her for the first time yesterday
Everything I wished that it would be
Suddenly I forgot how to speak
Hopeless, breathless
Baby can't you see?
A few months had passed since he had last seen Sarah and, luckily, she was coming to visit his home in California for a week.
As he sat in his room writing a song for the new album, there was a light knock on his door. “Come in,” he called.
The door swung open, and sure enough, there was Sarah. Her two large bags were practically weighing her down.
“Sarah!” Nick ran over and grabbed her bags, setting them on the floor. She smiled at him and wrapped her arms around his waist, pulling him into a tight hug.
“I missed you,” she confessed, breathing quietly onto his neck.
“You too.” His hands slid down her arms and found her hands quickly. Nick gripped them tightly, smiling at her.
Sarah looked up at him nervously, biting her lip. As he leaned closer to her, she shut her eyes and closed the space between them.
The first kiss.
Nick pulled away after a few seconds of pure bliss and flashed her a toothy smile, getting the same back from her as her green eyes sparkled.
Now I'm...
Now I'm speechless, over the edge
I'm just breathless
I never thought that I'd catch this lovebug again
Hopeless, head over heels, in the moment
I never thought that I'd get hit by this lovebug again
“Ugh, I’ll miss you!” She wrapped her arms around his neck and looked deeply into his eyes.
“Don’t worry; I’ll see you soon, okay?” A small smile danced across his lips as she sighed.
“Promise?”
“I promise,” he assured her, stroking her flushed cheek.
“Alright.”
Now boarding, flight 709, the speakers echoed through the halls in the airport.
“That’s me,” Nick stated sadly.
“Call me?” she asked, hope filling her green eyes.
“Of course,” he laughed. “I love you.”
Sarah looked absolutely shocked that he felt the same way. “I love you, too.”
He planted one last kiss on her lips, picked up his bag and walked toward the gate. “Bye!”
“Bye, Lovebug."
Ah, sorry this isn't the best. I did this in about an hour and a half, due to major inspiration from meeting the boys last year, and listening to LoveBug =] I hope you enjoyed it!
