When We were Young
The two young children pumped their legs as hard as their little five year old legs would let them. Each trying to get higher than the other. “Not fair! You’re cheating!” the little girl yelled “Are not!” the boy yelled back. The thought that he was cheating made her try harder. Finally they were going as high as the rusty old park swings would allow them to go. The little boy jumped off and landed on his feet and punched his fist in the air and said “YES!” and turned around to see that the little girl had yet to jump off “C’mon Dani! You need to get off!” “I can’t Nick! I’m scared!” She said and tears started falling. “Don’t worry! I won’t let you get hurt” Nick said and stood there looking brave for his friend. Dani looked down and saw her friend there and closed her eyes and jumped. She landed, not quite as gracefully as Nick…in plain, she landed on her butt in the woodchips.
Nick ran over to her “are you okay?” She shook her head to get out the wood chips and looked at him and laughed “yep! I’m alright” “you scared me! Don’t ever do that again!” he scolded plopping down in the woodchips next to her. “I’m sorry Nick” she said “yeah well, when we get married you can’t do that anymore” “are we gonna get married Nick?” Dani asked looking at her best friend “Yep” he replied laying down to look at the clouds “why?” she asked laying down next to him “because…that’s what people who are in love do” he said turning his head to look at her. She sat up again “do you love me Nick Jonas?” “Yes I do…do you love me?” he asked she started to giggle “Yes I do” and she leaned over and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Ewwww COOTIES!” he said wiping it off.

The two twenty year olds sat on the rusty swings pumping their legs trying to beat each other, just like they had fifteen years before on the day they decided that they would be getting married. “No fair! You’re cheating!” Dani said pushing her fiancé on the swing next to her. “Are not!!” Nick said pushing her back. They laughed at each other as they continued to get higher and higher.
Nick jumped off first and stood there waiting for Dani to get off as well “C’mon honey! We have to go! We’re getting married in two hours!” “I can’t Nick! I’m scared” “Baby! I promise nothing will happen to you” She closed her eyes and jumped and this time, landed on her feet. She jumped up “I did it!” Nick laughed at her “very good!” he walked over and kissed her. “Are we getting married Nick?” Dani asked when they pulled apart “Yep” he smiled as he took her hand “Why?” she asked “Because, that’s what people who are in love do baby”. She leaned over and gave him a kiss on the cheek “Ewww COOTIES!” he yelled and ran away she started laughing and chased after him “yeah! That’s my big strong man!”.
That day, they were married, just like they had planned to all those years ago. They looked at each other and smiled knowing that they were marrying their best friend and that nothing would ever change between them, because that’s what happens when you’re in love.
