3) This is a future fic. Joe and Mia are 20.
~Joe's POV~
I was one they said couldn't be tamed. They said I was too much of a flirt to actually settle down and devote myself to one woman. Now here I am, proving them all wrong.
Standing at the alter with my father and brothers, my breath catches in the back of my throat upon seeing the love of my life slowly making her way down the aisle on her father's arm.
I feel Kevin's hand on my shoulder, "Deep breaths, Joe..." he whispers reassuringly.
I look around me and take in the entire scene. Mine and Mia's mothers sitting on opposite sides of the aisle, each in the front row, dabbing their eyes with balled up tissues. The white carpet layed out for the wedding, covered in light pink flower pedals, candles everywhere, the scent of jasmine floating in the air, Mia's brides maids in silky, lavender gowns. Her sister Anna, Kevin's wife Amy, Demi and Selena. Her little sister in a white lace dress, holding a small white basket that once held the flower pedals. I turn to see my brothers, Kevin and Nick in black tuxedos and Frankie in a white one matching mine.
A feel a small, nervous smile spread across my face as Mia finally reaches me.
"Doesn't she look beautiful?" I ask, turning towards my father, who is conducting the ceremony.
He simply smiles and directs his attention to Mia's father, "Who gives their blessing that this woman be married?" he asks.
"Her mother and I do." he says softly, lifting Mia's veil slightly to place a kiss on her cheek then places her hand in mine, "Take care of my baby, Joe."
"I will." I whisper back.
"If anyone has just cause that this couple should not be joined in Holy Matrimony, speak now or forever hold your peace." my father asks the congregation.
I hold my breath, hoping that no one would object. To my relief there is complete silence.
"Let us pray," my father instructs and everyone bows their heads, "Lord, we ask that You bless Joseph and Mia. That their belief in You and Your word may be the foundation of their marriage. That You bless their life together, keeping their love strong, devoting themselves to each other, forsaking all others. In Your name we pray. Amen" he finishes the prayer and continiues with the ceremony, "Marriage is a lifelong commitment made to one person. Promising to love and cherish one person for as long as you live. Its an equal partnership. Working together to help the marriage survive trials and tribulations. Caring for each other through the good and bad times. And because of promises that both of you made, devoting your purity to God, you can give all of yourselves to each other. Heart, soul, mind, body and spirit. Marriage is a blessing...the Lord's most precious gift. Do you Joseph, take Amelia as your lawfully wedded wife, promising to love, honor, cherish, comfort and care for her for as long as you both shall live? Devoting yourself only to her, forsaking all others?" he asked, directing his attention to me.
"I do." I say, my voice shaking and tears stinging my eyes.
"And do you Amelia, take Joseph as your lawfully wedded husband, promising to love, honor, cherish, comfort and care for him as long as you both shall live? Devoting yourself only to him, forsaking all others?"
"I do." Mia says, her voice shaking as well with tears in her own violet eyes.
"The rings..." my father says, taking both gold bands from Frankie, "These rings...a symbal of love, trust and devotion." he says, holding them up for everyone to see, then hands one of the bands to me, "Joseph, present this ring to Amelia, repeating these words...'I give you this ring as a symbal of my vow...'" he starts.
"I give you this ring as a symbal of my vow..." I repeat, slowly sliding the ring halfway down Mia's left ring finger.
"And with all that I am and all that I have, I honor you in the name of God." he finishes.
"And with all that I am and all that I have, I honor you in the name of God." I finish, sliding the ring the rest of the way on Mia's finger.
"Ameila, present this ring to Joseph, repeating these words...'I give you this ring as a symbal of my vow..." he instructs.
"I give you this ring as a symbal of my vow..." Mia says softly, slowly sliding the ring onto my finger.
"And with all that I am and all that I have, I honor you in the name of God."
"And with all that I am and all that I have, I honor you in the name of God." she finishes, her voice trembling and tears sliding down her cheeks.
"By the power vested in me, by the state of California, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Joseph, you may now kiss your bride." he finishes with a smile.
I lift Mia's veil and gently take her face in my hands, pushing some of her long black curls out of her face and brush her tears away with my thumb. We lean towards each other for our first married kiss. At that moment, everything around us disappears. All that exists is this moment. This moment however, is cut short.
"It is my pleasure to present to you for the first time, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Adam Jonas. Go in peace." my father announces and everyone cheers.
Mia and I make our way down the aisle, hand in hand. Ready to begin our life together.
