“They’re so amazing together; it’s like the perfect fairytale ending for him.” Lindsay sighed as she watched Joe and Taylor cling to each other, their first dance as a married couple well underway. She glanced at Joe’s left ring finger, at the wedding band which had finally replaced the purity ring he had worn for so long. Suddenly, she felt a warm hand slide over hers.
“Linds, baby, we can leave if you want, if this is too much for you,” a man said, sitting down in the chair next to her.
“John, we can’t leave, not after all the trouble Taylor went through to be sure I was welcomed here,” Lindsay said, finally taking her glance away from the kissing couple and setting her eyes on her boyfriend of one year next to her. “She has been so amazing to me, we just have to stay for a little bit longer before we can go. I’m fine, really, I don’t love Joe anymore. I love you, and you know that.”
John Taylor smiled at her lightly, placing a soft kiss on her cheek. “I love you too sweetheart, more than anything. I’m going to go get us a few drinks, I’ll be right back.” He stood up, and she watched him walk towards the bar. Sighing deeply again, she turned her gaze back to Joe and Taylor, who were now surrounded by a few other couples, including Nick and his girlfriend Leanne, and Kevin along with his wife, who was once again pregnant. She laughed slightly, looking at how happy all of the Jonases looked. She watched their parents step onto the dance floor too, swaying along to the beat of the music, and last but not least, Frankie, and his girlfriend, who she didn’t know. They all looked so happy, so family-like. She longed for that feeling, the feeling of unconditional love that she hadn’t felt for so long. She had never felt it with Joe, his heart was never in their relationship. But she could tell, his heart was 100% committed to the life he had ahead with Taylor.
After watching all of the happy couples dancing, Lindsay stood up, in desperate need of some fresh air. She walked out of the reception hall, not catching glance of her boyfriend, and stepped outside into the warm summer night. Her yellow dress swayed in the breeze, and she started to walk along the stone pathway outside of the hotel. It was quaint and cute, yet she could hear the cars and paparazzi that were being kept out of the area by security guards. She walked along the hotel for a while, before seeing a small bench. She sat down on it, kicking off her shoes and leaning back, gazing up into the starry sky. Before too long, however, she heard footsteps approaching along the stone path, and she turned to see her boyfriend, carrying a bottle of champagne, walking towards her.
“Beautiful night,” he murmured, before sitting down next to her and slipping an arm around her waist. She leaned into his shoulder as he kissed the top of her head. “I love you so much,” he said quietly, and she looked up into his eyes.
“I love you too,” she replied warmly, placing a soft kiss on his lips. “I’m sorry if I seem down, it’s just that tonight makes me wish that I could be as happy as Joe and Taylor are. I just feel like I’ll never get that kind of happiness. I mean, they’re so perfect for each other, it’s like the perfect ending.”
“Don’t feel like that Lindsay,” John Taylor replied, rubbing his hand in circles on the small of her back. “I love you more than you’ll ever know, and you’ll get that fairytale ending too. I promise,” he said sternly, before reaching into the pocket of his pants. Lindsay smiled as he fidgeted with whatever was in his pocket, before finally pulling out a small box. Her heart caught in her throat as she realized what he was doing.
“Lindsay, I love you so much, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you,” he said slowly and quietly, as though letting the moment sink in. “So, I wanted to ask you, will you marry me?”
Her eyes lit up as he opened the box, revealing a beautiful diamond ring. She felt tears flooding her eyes, as she thought up the perfect answer for him. But through everything there was to say, only one word could come out of her mouth.
“Yes,” she replied squeakily, before his lips covered her mouth and she was no longer able to speak. Finally, she thought, my fairytale ending.
