Untitled JB Oneshot

Yeah I’m the first to fall

‘Story of my life’ Cayden thought, getting out of bed after turning off her alarm clock before it began playing the next verse of the song “Heels Over Head” by Boys Like Girls, her all time favorite song. She had the song as everything, her alarm, her cell phone ringtone, it’s lyrics were even pasted all over the walls of her cramped bedroom alongside photographs of her small family, but that was who she was. She was Cayden, her full name being Cayden Belle Rose, her friends called her Belle, when she still saw them that is, and Belle fit her unbelievably well. She was, unarguably, beautiful, her flowing raven hair contrasting against her fair skin, similar to that of a china doll. She had eyes rivaling the color of even the bluest sapphire, and always had a smile on her face, even throughout the roughest times. Cayden Belle was eighteen going on thirty, her father left when she was thirteen and her mother passed away three years later, leaving the then sixteen-year-old Cayden to take care of her two younger brothers, who were, at that time, both five. Her mother had left them the florist shop that she owned, Belle’s Roses, along with a small fortune, allowing Cayden to hire someone to watch her twin brothers while she finished high school. Now, two years later, Cayden was out of high school for two weeks, about to return to the job that she was destined to work at for the rest of her life at Belle Rose’s, the florist shop that she now owned, in her hometown of suburban Wyckoff, New Jersey. She had the same housekeeper coming to look after the twins that she had for two years, and hopefully she’d stay with them until the twins no longer needed someone to look after them. Cayden quickly put on a suitable ensemble, and threw her hair up into a high ponytail, kissing each of the twins on the forehead before walking the five short blocks from their apartment to the florist. Cayden was the only employee that was able to both create the arrangements and deal with the customers, due to her wonderful people skills and gift for creating the most unique arrangements. She had a gift that others would kill for, and she was lucky, in that sense. She never let anyone know about her unfortunate past, and frankly, no one would believe it if she told them, she always acted so happy. She was also a dreamer, when Cayden was not working or taking care of her family, you could always count on finding her daydreaming, she had a recurring dream of one day having a handsome stranger come and rescue her from her nightmare of a life, last night was more vivid than ever; she, for the first time, saw this man in her dreams, he was tall, with straight hair, the color of hers, and the voice of an angel. She knew that she saw his face, but could not remember what it looked like. She sighed as she unlocked the door to the florist, and took her position on the stool behind the cash register. She spent the first dreary hour sketching on the notepad that was usually used to write down the orders, trying to draw her savior’s face. She was brought out of her trance by the ringing of the bell on top of the door, signaling a customer. She glanced at her watch, ‘9:45’ she thought ‘Weird, customers don’t usually come until 11…ah well’.
“Welcome to Belle’s Roses, my name is Cayden, how may I help you?” She asked, looking at the customer for the first time. He was a boy, about her age, only a few inches taller than her, she guessed somewhere around five feet ten inches, with dark, wavy hair that was also slightly shaggy, and tan skin. He wore white skinny jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt with multicolored neon sunglasses printed on it, and white ray-ban sunglasses.
‘Wonderful, a punk in a flower shop. What’s next an emo kid at the county fair?’ She thought to herself, a smile plastered on her face.
“Uh, yeah, I’m here to pick up a flower arrangement.” The boy said, suddenly flustered.
“What name was it ordered under?” Cayden asked, hands poised over the keyboard of the company computer, ready to search through the database.
“Uh…I think my dad said it’d be under Paul?” He replied, awkwardly sticking his hands in his pockets.
Okay, let me search it…you can come over here you know, I won’t bite.” Cayden said, laughing at the fact that this boy was standing almost completely on the other side of the store. He chuckled himself, and walked forward, leaning close to me on the counter and smiling a million dollar smile.
“Okay, here it is! Hey, I made this one myself! I hope you like it…Paul” Cayden added walking to the backroom to fetch the arrangement of multicolored orchids. She remembered adding in a few white lilies to add to the elegance, at no extra charge.
“Here you are” She said proudly.
“Wow, it’s beautiful. Makes sense that someone like you would make it” He said, flashing her his megawatt smile, Cayden blushed, something that she had not done for years. At that moment she had a flash of recognition…his voice and his smile seemed all too familiar…
“And by the way, I’m not Paul, that’s my dad, I’m Joe.” He finished, taking off his sunglasses. Cayden let out an audible gasp. Could it really be the boy that she had been seeing in her dreams for years? Was it possible? Could her life be turning into a some wonderful fairytale? He didn’t seem to hear the gasp, fortunately for the now flustered Cayden, he was distracted by another ringing of the bell, followed by the entry of a girl, the same age as both Cayden and Joe. She came over to him and wrapped her arms tightly around his waist possessively, kissing him on the cheek.
“Hey babe” He said, kissing her back.
“Hey” She responded, flirtily, “who’s this?” she asked, nodding her head at Cayden.
“The girl who made the flower arrangement for my dad.” He replied. ‘A minute ago, he was calling me beautiful, and now I’m just some girl who made the flower arrangement?’ Cayden asked herself, confused.
“How much is that?” Joe asked, suddenly eager to leave
“Oh, uhm, $63.94, please” Cayden replied, stumbling over her words. Joe paid and left, the flower arrangement in one hand, his girlfriend’s waist in the other. Cayden sighed, going back to her work.
“Fairytales are for losers.” She murmured through the tears.

The first day of school, she was introducing herself (cuz it's her first year at my school) and she said that she lived and taught in LA for ten years and I had to try REALLY hard to stifle the urge to ask her if she knew any celebrities ::cough:: JB ::cough::
