Chapter Two
Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep, beep, beep, bee-
Rolling out of bed I slapped the sleep button on my alarm clock. Man I hate that thing! Ugh! I dragged myself out of bed five minutes later, and then I walked into the bathroom. Looking in the mirror I winced, scary. After I was out of the shower I took a deep breath. School…again. I had gotten so used to my summer, get up at noon, computer, lunch, TV, computer, walk the dog, bed. Now it was get up at 5:30, shower, scarf down breakfast, rush out the door, school, homework, dinner, more homework, bed. I let out a long sigh as I looked at my closet. What to wear, what to wear…? Ah! No…everyone’s got that, to dressy, what is that, hm, no, sure…I guess. I grabbed a blue AE striped polo, long shorts, and a white cami. Once I was ready I grabbed a cereal bar and threw on some blue AE flats. Backpack in hand I ran out to my bus stop, just in time too. The bus was just loading students when I ran on. Out of breath I sat down next to Alyssia.
“Hey!” I said catching my breath.
She rolled her eyes at me. “How come you wait ‘til the last minute to get ready?”
“That’s just the way I roll!” The bus was off, the busses were so old that I thought any second and the walls would fall down.
“Did you talk to your dad about the concert?” She whispered.
“Why are we whispering?” I whispered back.
“O…ha…” She blushed. “Did you ask?”
Laughing at her embarrassment I answered. “Yea and I can’t get out of it…”
“How long?”
“Until, November first…”
“O…”
“Not all that bad though, I could see the Jonas Brothers concert on Halloween.”
“AH! I wanted to go to that one!” She yelled causing everyone on the bus to stare.
“Which one?” Rick said from the back of the bus, suddenly ‘interested’.
“The J-” I put my hand over her mouth.
“None of your business!” I yelled back. The bus chuckled, although the rest of the bus ride was silent.
“Welcome back, hi, how are you?” Mrs. Velche said as we all walked in and sat in our seats. “Since this is your second day of school, I think it’s time for a seating chart.” Every one groaned and stood up next to their desks.
“Bill, Dan, Matt, Alyssia, and Bella. Next row; Hannah, Sydney, Tyler, Brooke…” That’s all I needed to hear, next to Alyssia, ha…what she doesn’t know…
The rest of the day went by rather fast…actually. After school I walked over to Alyssia’s locker.
“Ah, stupid lockers, stupid backpack and books.” She was pulling at her backpack, getting it more jammed.
“Chill!” I yelled rushing over to her taking the backpack. “Here…let go! Ayssia you’re going to rip it!”
“UGH!” She let the backpack go and looked at me.
“Just walk away…” Alyssia slowly stepped back and let me get the backpack. Finally I got it out and handed it to her.
“Thanks.”
“No problem…” The walk home was silent. I could tell that she was angry about the whole ‘California’ thing. O well, she’ll get over it.
Three weeks went by slowly, Alyssia still mad, and me, trying to get my parents to take me to the concert and trying to make it up to Alyssia. Both failing, miserably.
“Come on, it’s not my fault!”
No answer.
“If I didn’t have to I wouldn’t go! If so rather be at a Jonas Brothers concert!”
Still no answer. What would make her talk…I GOT IT!
“Did you get the tickets?”
“Yes…it’ll be fun. Just my mom and I though…still fun…”
“Yea, you’re lucky, I can’t go to the one in Cali, I tried so hard! That includes on my knees begging, and nothing. There were even three front row seats on eBay, I showed it to my mom and then my dad and still nothing.”
“How much were they?”
“Cheap, for front row.”
“How much…?”
“$350…each.”
“Wow.”
“I know, my mom said ‘we’ll see’ she might as well just said flat out no.”
“Next time…”
“I guess…”
School = boring, very boring. Although that night totally made it up!
At home I was at the kitchen table hunched over my text book. Math…ugh! I thought.
“Hey! Anybody home?” My dad yelled walking into the door.
“In here!” I yelled back.
My dad walked over to me and kissed the top of my head. “Math…again? They are definitely coming down on you kids. Summer just ended a couple of weeks ago.”
“Yea…tomorrow we’re leaving…right?”
He was searching for the right words. “No, actually in two days.”
“Why?” I said looking up from my text.
“Well…I was going to wait ‘til your mom got home but…are there any Jonas Brothers fan in here?”
“Duh! Right here! You know that!”
“Then you’ll like this…” Standing on his tip toes, he reached up above the fridge and grabbed some thing. Or some things should I say? Four pieces of paper and handed them to me.
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! NO WAY! DAD! O MY JONAS! AHHHHHHHH!” I screamed, four front row seats to the Halloween concert in California. He smiled and laughed while walking away. Four front row…NO WAY! THAT’S NOT EVEN…O MY JONAS! What should I…Alyssia! Running over to my phone I basically ripped it off the hook and dialed the number.
“Hello?”
“ALYSSIA! THERE IS NO WAY YOUR GOING TO BELIEVE THIS!”
“Um…calm down.”
Taking a deep breath I started over. “What you say if I said Jonas Brothers, California, Halloween.”
“The Jonas Brothers concert in California on Halloween.” She said mocking my calm tone.
“Now add the words tickets and Alyssia to it.”
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” I laughed, hard; I knew this was definitely ‘making it up’ to her.
“I know I know that’s what I did!”
“No way! Listen I’ll um…call you…yea I’ll call you back to see if I can go!”
“K.” I said but she had already hung up on me. As soon as my mom got home I screamed and thanked her two million times…I was so happy! Alyssia called me back and she’s coming! YES!
“So can she?” My dad asked as soon as I hung up.
“Yes! She! Can!” Every word was yelled.
“Calm down…we leave in a week so I’d go pack.” He said after I was already off the couch and halfway to my room.
“Good idea, I wish I would have thought of that!” I yelled to him, sarcastically. California, o yes, I get to bring shorts! Shorts! I can’t believe it! I’m leaving this cold, boring, dull life behind. Jonas Brothers and California get ready for the two the only the Brooke and the Alyssia!
*one week later*
“I hate planes.” Alyssia said as we boarded ours.
I laughed at her. “Then why did you agree to come?”
“Um…hello! Jonas Brothers! And I’m sure this plane has barf bags if I have to…”
“Yea, got the picture. And you plus sitting on the outside equals me happy.”
“Math?”
“O shut up…just if you’re by the window it’ll be harder to go to the bathroom to puke…just trying to help.”
“I was just kidding.” We walked on the plane. First we went through first class. Rich people just showing off their money. We both put our pants on the same way! Whether yours are five hundred dollars more than mine.
“Here we are.” Alyssia sat down, on the outside.
“Cool! Not by the bathrooms this time!” She looked at me kind of weird, along with everyone already sitting on the plane. “What?” I sat down and glanced out the window. After the fight attendants went through all the emergency procedures, we took off. I let out a long sigh.
“This is so exciting!” My mom said from across the aisle.
I just smiled and nodded my head. Embarrassing. Once in the air I took out my iPod. After watching and listening to Alyssia beg and beg for about a half an hour to listen, I finally gave in.
“Pop and lock,
Battle dance
Against Hanson
If we lose all the girls
They’ll be laughing
Were would we be if we couldn’t dream…”
Alyssia and I sang along quietly to the rest of the songs. Once I sat up in my chair a little bit higher and saw a man looking at me. I thought I recognized his face but I wasn’t sure. I quickly pushed that thought out of my head and began to sing along again.
